What a blast this weekend was, this was our 1st camping trip for the year and my 1st camping trip as a Cubmaster. Thank you to William Pyles, Britiney and Nik, Jason, Aaron, Emily and Ryan for all your help. These weekends and this program couldn't happen without all that you guys do.
We had a busy weekend starting with our opening flag ceremony and breakfast on Saturday. Shortly after we took the pack for a short hike with a beautiful scenic overview and if you look real close you'll see a few trees changing colors.
Afterwards we came back to camp and did some of our activities for advancement and each den was responsible for their own lunches, so some made foil packs, others sandwiches, and the lions and tigers did sausage, peppers and onions. All lunches looked amazing, we had over 50 people camping this weekend with us, the pack has grown this year from 13 kids when I took over to 35 kids currently. Our dens are fuller and it's great for the kids and makes my heart happy so many were there to enjoy the weekend.
After lunches we just let the kids enjoy camp while the Webelos and Arrows went on a longer hike till we did dinner. For dinner we had two chili's a white chicken chili and a traditional chili with beans, it was delicious especially after a long day of activites. The Webelos and Arrows helped make a bunch of cobblers for our dessert and they devoured it.
And since we could have a camp fire this time all the dens did skits, songs, and some cheers, the camp fire is one of my favorite activities and the kids loved it. To end our camp fire we had a few American flags to retire so we did a flag retirement ceremony to teach the kids about the flag and why its important to honor and respect it, along with when and how to retire her with dignity, it was very somber and a beautiful ceremony that always brings a tear to my eye.
Sunday morning we started our day with breakfast and interfaith service around the fire ring to tie in the 12th point of our scout law which a scout is reverent, which ended our camping trip. Took a few hours to breakdown the kitchen area but we left it cleaner than when we arrived because a scout leaves no trace.
