Galt Bible Church Where God is Glorified and His Word Explained! Expository Teaching * Community * Prayer The Bible is a very important book.

Through it you can personally know God and His Son, Jesus Christ. In it you will find direction through life and joy in living. That is why we at Galt Bible Church attempt to make careful and consistent bible teaching the major emphasis in our program. As an independent Bible Church, we believe the Bible. We proclaim it and explain it, applying its unchanging principles to the pressing problems in modern life, exalting its central figure, the Lord Jesus Christ.

John 11:21-46; 2 Kings 12-14. We can have a high view of God and still have too low of a view of God. Both Mary and Martha thought that Jesus needed to be present to save Lazarus. They thought that because Jesus was delayed (from their perspective) all hope was gone. Martha understood there would be a resurrection and a glorious future, but forgot that Jesus was able to answer her prayer in the present. Both Mary and Martha thought it was appropriate to rebuke the Lord. Sadly, we share many of their same traits because we have a limited view of God. We need to constantly remember that His plans and timing are perfect, He cares and will do all that brings glory to Himself and spiritual growth in us.

John 11:1-20; 2 Kings 10-11. Jesus delayed leaving for Bethany because His timing is perfect. God's timing often feels disastrous for us, but His timing reflects sovereign plan, His wisdom and omniscience. We tend to want things for comfort and happiness, but God's timing is based on what brings glory to Him and draws people to Himself for redemption and maturity. We should always pour out our heart in prayer and cast every burden on Him. We should strive for contentment with God's plan, trusting in His wisdom and goodness. We must resolve to live faithfully in all circumstances. Thomas takes a lot of grief, but we should follow this example of going with Christ whatever the outcome might be.

John 10:22-42; 2 Kings 8-9. Jesus spoke plainly about His identity, but many refused to listen. He demonstrated His deity through miracles, but they turned a blind eye. However, in this passage, they asked Him plainly, He answered them plainly, and they tried to stone Him. This was not the right time, nor was it the proper method of death, so He eluded their grasp. This is the second time a mob tried to kill Him, but God's sovereign plan did not allow it at this time. Jesus came when the time was right and He would not lay down His life until Passover which was just a few days ahead. He clearly claimed equality with the Father and shared in the Father's sovereign authority. We can rest well in the security of belonging to the One who holds all things in His hands.

John 10:1-21; 2 Kings 6-7. Jesus used the familiar language of the sheep and the shepherd to describe His love and care for His followers. There are references to predators, fake shepherds, and false converts, but the emphasis is on His goodness. As the Good Shepherd, Jesus is faithful to His flock and sacrificial for them. He loves the flock and the true members of His flock love Him and follow Him because of it. The love of Jesus for the sheep was ultimately demonstrated at the cross, and the strength of our Shepherd was revealed through the resurrection. The same statement comforted those who believed and enraged the skeptics.

John 9:13-41; 2 Kings 4-5. The blind man's healing led to a major discussion. You can get a sense of how powerful the Pharisees were through the silence of the blind man's parents. You can see the strength of the man who was healed. He refused to denounce Jesus in the face of fierce opposition. There was a lot he did not know, but he knew that Jesus changed him and refused to cower and was bold enough to defend Jesus. This unnamed blind man is a model for us, since we have been changed by the Lord, we should share in the same spirit of boldness.

John 9:1-12; 2 Kings 1-3. This short account has several characters. A man who suffered with blindness since births. The speculators (the disciples) who wondered who sinned to cause the blindness. Sadly, suffering was often attributed to sin by the people of that day. The skeptics who questioned his original diagnosis or identity. Lastly, there is the Savior; the only One who could deliver this man from his physical malady and spiritual darkness. Healing blindness was a uniquely Messianic gift and Jesus's critics tried to dismiss Him by denying the Messianic sign He provided. Later, they would ask for a sign and Jesus answered with His resurrection, which most of His critics still ignored.
