The Divine is present in humanity and all of creation in infinite ways—from the first breath of God at the first spark of creation, through the life, ministry, death, resurrection, & ascension of Jesus, and in the continuing aspirations of the Holy Spirit. On Trinity Sunday, we reflect on the many ways the Divine is with us and how we are called, led, & nurtured to care for humanity and all of creation to the end of the age.

The Holy Spirit arrived at Pentecost, transforming the faithful into powerful witnesses to Jesus. The message came in a variety of languages to a variety of people. First Corinthians reminds us that the gifts of the spirit are varied and each is needed for the common good.

Pentecost encourages us to open our hearts to recognize God’s work in a variety of people and in many circumstances. All are welcome in God’s love.

Join us for Worship & Sunday School this Pentecost Sunday beginning at 10:00 AM, with a light luncheon during Fellowship Hour following our service.

Ascension Sunday reveals a power that lies within and yet beyond ordinary experience. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead and heals our bodies and our souls when we feel broken beyond repair brings gifts of the Holy Spirit that are as powerful and often fleeting as waking dreams. As Jesus is lifted up to the heavens, we are reminded to look beyond earthly power to the power of the Most High God.

God’s steadfast faithfulness makes our faithfulness possible. We need not be the strong ones, for God’s strength is enough. Jesus knows that the troubles of this world are real; yet he promises that we can trust God to lead us on the way both in this earthly life and in the life to come. God’s steadfast faithfulness will get us through, even when our faith waivers.

Luke’s story of the walk to Emmaus carries so many beautiful themes: Christ walks with us, even when we are unaware of his presence; Christ stays with us when we offer hospitality to strangers; Christ opens our eyes to the presence of the divine when we break bread together. Christ meets us, even when we don’t recognize him; then he opens our eyes and offers us a glorious future. This is good news indeed.

Join us here at Emmaus UMC to continue your walk of faith with Christ and to take part in our weekly worship, fellowship, prayer meetings, and ongoing mission projects!
