At Sojourner Magazine, we often tell stories from the front lines of global missions, but sometimes the mission field is much closer to home, even inside of it.

Raising children in the fear and admonition of the Lord is not separate from the Great Commission, it is one of the primary ways it continues from generation to generation.

Our latest article reflects on Matthew Boswell’s That Holy Week So Long Ago and how gospel-centered family discipleship helps shape the next generation with the hope of Christ’s death and resurrection.

Before the gospel reaches the nations, it is first meant to be treasured in the home.

What does it mean to be Called?

The doctrine of calling stands at the heart of the Christian life, yet it is often misunderstood or reduced in contemporary discussions. Scripture presents a far richer vision: God is the One who calls, summoning sinners to salvation in Christ, forming a redeemed people for Himself, and sending His church into the world for faithful service and mission.

In this new article, we explore the biblical doctrine of calling across the canon of Scripture, with special attention to its gospel foundation, its unfolding in redemptive history, and its implications for discipleship, ministry, and the life of the church.

From the saving call of God in Christ to the shared calling of every believer to holiness and service, this study invites readers to recover the depth, clarity, and joy of what it means to belong to the God who calls.

Feeling weary? You’re not alone.

In our latest article, we turn to the age-old, pastoral wisdom of Richard Sibbes, a man who knew what it meant to share the hope of the Gospel with heavy hearts, understanding:

Christ is more merciful than your sin 🙏
More gentle than your weakness 🌿
And sovereign even over your suffering ✝️

Rooted in Scripture and the historic witness of the church, including the Second London Baptist Confession of Faith and the Baptist Faith and Message 2000, this article reminds us that true rest is still found in Christ alone.

There are small decisions in the life of a church that reveal more than we think. One of them is simple: Is there a Bible in the pew?

In this latest piece from Sojourner Magazine, we argue that this isn’t a minor preference, it’s a theological conviction with real implications for worship, discipleship, and mission.

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly…” (Col. 3:16)

A stack of pancakes may seem like a small thing. But in the life of the church, even a simple breakfast can become part of something much larger.

This Saturday, Southside Baptist Church in Southside, Alabama is hosting a pancake breakfast fundraiser to support the Honduras Baptist Dental Mission’s Carter/Hart Team as they prepare to serve this summer in Intibucá, Honduras.

Through medical and dental outreach, the team will minister among communities they love deeply, bringing care, encouragement, and the Word of God.

Scripture reminds us, “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31, ESV). Even the eating of pancakes can become a small part of the church’s participation in the mission of God.

Learn more about the breakfast, the mission, and how you can support the team in our latest article:

For more than twenty-five years, Dr. Mark Fairchild has walked the ruins of ancient Anatolia, the land where much of the New Testament was written and where early Christian theology was forged and defended.

In our latest feature, “Among the Ruins: Reflections on a Quarter Century in Asia Minor,” Dr. Fairchild reflects on archaeology, hospitality in Türkiye, the hidden years of the Apostle Paul, and why the stones of history still matter for the Church today.

Christianity is not an abstract idea. It was born in real cities, along real roads, among real people, and its witness endures forever.

NEW ARTICLE & BOOK REVIEW

There is no more consequential event in history than the death of Christ. And yet, the great tragedy of our time is not an open denial of the cross, but superficial familiarity with it.

In our latest book review, we engage The Death of Christ by John Owen (Crossway), a rich and beautifully crafted volume that calls the church to slow down, search the Scriptures, and reckon with what actually happened at Calvary.

What did Christ accomplish? For whom did He die? What did the cross secure? Read the full review below to read Owen's answer.

“For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” (1 Cor. 1:18, ESV) Th...

🚨 On Duty With Christ: A Conversation With David Bankson 🚨

The weight of a badge is more than metal, it carries responsibility, authority, and at times sorrow. But for Sergeant David Bankson of the Gadsden State Police Department, his strength comes from a deeper source: the cross of Christ.

David serves faithfully in two roles that many might think are impossible to balance: as a police officer at Gadsden State Community College and as pastor of Cove Creek Baptist Church.

Yet he does both with grace, humility, and unwavering faith, transforming every challenge into an opportunity to serve others in love, by faith in Christ alone.

Loved by students, respected by faculty, and cherished by his church, David embodies what it means to live out the gospel in the midst of a fallen world. He enforces the law without pride, extends mercy without compromise, and reminds us all that true strength comes from knowing who we are in Christ.

Read our full conversation with David to see how the gospel shapes his service, his leadership, and the hearts of those around him.

📖 New Book Review: On Preaching by H. B. Charles Jr

Faithful preaching is not about novelty or performance, it is about proclaiming Christ with clarity, humility, and dependence upon God, by faith that God will accomplish His purposes.

Our latest article reviews On Preaching by H. B. Charles Jr., a deeply practical and biblically grounded resource that calls pastors back to the sacred task of heralding the Word. From preparation and delivery to endurance in ministry, this book reminds us that preaching is a stewardship, not a platform.

Why does Bible translation matter?

Because God has chosen to reveal Himself through His Word, and His people need to hear that Word clearly, in their own language.

We’re grateful to share this news from HeartCry Missionary Society and to provide an update from a faithful translation team in Latin America working to bring Scripture into Asháninka and Quechua Chanka.

Please take a moment to read the article and join us in praying for faithfulness, accuracy, and perseverance as they labor to rightly handle the Word of truth.
