Backpacks of Love

Backpacks of Love 'Backpacks of Love' helps kids in need at Freeport Elementary School. We provide food packs for backpacks-- to insure that no child is ever left hungry!

The ‘Backpacks of Love’ program is designed to support and help children in need. In Walton County alone, elementary schools average a rate 70%-80% of students on free or reduced lunches. Freeport Elementary School is among these schools, and has a great need. It is clear that child hunger is present in our country, our county, and even our town. The ‘Backpack’ program helps children dealing with

hunger by providing weekend backpack Packs—a bag of ‘child-friendly’ and nonperishable food items that a child can take home over the weekend. This helps insure that (even when the children are away from school) they have something to eat. With the help of Portland United Methodist Church and Nick's Seafood Restaurant, Rachael Jones (the program sponsor) and Jennifer Nick (the school coordinator) have worked to turn this project into a true program--that is working and helping kids each week. 100 % of all donations go to the children. Rach and Jenn are so thankful to have an amazing team, and are so thankful for all donations. Every dime goes to the kids, and every dime benefits them greatly. Monetary donations can be dropped off at Nick's Restaurant or Portland United Methodist Church. Checks can be made out to Portland United Methodist Church (in the MEMO: Backpacks of Love). If you wish to donate clothing and kids shoes, please email [email protected]
Thank you for all the support, donations, prayers, and LOVE for these wonderful kids! "If you cannot feed 100 people, then just feed ONE." --Mother Theresa
