With the growth of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Middle Tennessee, the Franklin Tennessee Stake — created in 1979 — was split during a March 22 conference in Franklin to create the Columbia Tennessee Stake.

On Tuesday, March 3, over 100 leaders from the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints across the state of Tennessee, including a group from the Franklin Tennessee Stake, spent the day at Tennessee’s Capitol for our first Day on the Hill.

We appreciated the words of Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett, as he gave our group a warm welcome and encouraged us speak up and make an impact, and Area Seventy Elder Steven Bodhaine, as he reminded us of our common goals to love God and neighbor.

We are grateful for the opportunity we had to meet with Representative Lee Reeves, Representative Kirk Haston, Representative Todd Warner, and Senator Jack Johnson, and we express our thanks to them for their time and service to our state.

We discussed the Church’s efforts to serve in the community, to care for our brothers and sisters as Jesus Christ would, to be His disciples in action. We shared about local humanitarian outreach and volunteer efforts, our exemplary youth, and our concern for religious freedom and unity, the strength of the family unit, and the betterment of our communities.
