Be Anxious for Nothing
John Ogden Sr
January 23, 2024

The greatest need that I see among both Christian people and non-Christian people alike is peace. While we, as Christians, are guaranteed the peace of God, we do not always live in that state. Philippians 4:6-8 (NKJV) says, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be known to God; and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy–meditate on these things.” When we do not have the peace of God in our lives, there are a multitude of things that can cause this, including our relationship with God, our faith in Him, and how we view our circumstances.

I have the opportunity to pray for a large number of people in this area. God always comes through and brings peace. I am sometimes saddened by the fact that many people return to the same things that robbed them of their peace. Verse 8 is vital to having the peace of God once we have accepted Him as our Savior. You will note that these scriptures deal totally with meditating on the positive things.

While it is true that we live in a real world with real problems, these need to be handled in accordance with God’s Word. We can train ourselves to meditate as the scripture says on the positive while being confident that our Lord and Savior will work things out for our good.

My question for you is, “Are you allowing God to lead your life in accordance with these scriptures?” If you are, you already have the abundant peace He said we could have. If not, I challenge you to begin to live in this area.

Where Are You
John Ogden Sr
December 7, 2023

“And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, "Where are you?" (Genesis 3:8-9, NKJV).

Many of us have heard the story of Adam and Eve hiding in the garden after they ate the forbidden fruit. Adam and Eve were going through their daily routines while God was walking in the garden. As He approached them, they hid from Him. As I pondered their hiding from God, I asked myself, “Am I hiding from God?”

There are many ways in which we can hide from God. We can become so busy with work and our fast-paced lives that we do not have time for God. When our daily lives have become too busy for God, we have left Him out and adopted a lifestyle that essentially hides us from God. In CMA, we can become so busy with going and doing that we forget the most critical part – a personal lifestyle and relationship with our Lord.

If we do not have a personal relationship with Him, we cannot know His heart or where He would want us to go. Without that personal relationship, all the going and the doing are misdirected. We should never confuse busyness for a relationship with God. We can be in all the right places and say all the right things, but if we do not have a personal relationship with Him, it becomes empty. It becomes us leading ourselves, not God leading us. We can be part of His family but hidden from Him.

In verse 9, God asked Adam an interesting question. This question is relevant for us. In my spirit, I can hear God say to Adam, “Where are you?” Obviously, God knew where Adam was. That call comes ringing clearly through my spirit. “Where are you?” can mean, “Where are you physically?” but it can also mean, “Where are you with your relationship with God?” Many great men and women in the Bible lost focus, and God asked them that same question – “Where are you?”

God asks us the question, “Where are you?” Are you plowing through life without the wisdom and leading of the Holy Spirit? This would be an excellent time to take a few moments to ensure you are connected with the Spirit of God and know He is the One in control. He is the One who is directing our footsteps. I encourage you to take the next few moments and answer the question, “Where are you?” If you are not where God wants you to be, ask Him to put you physically and spiritually in the center of His will.

The Real Success of Life
April , 2019

Matthew 16:15-16 (KJV). Jesus asked Peter a question, “Whom say ye that I am?” Peter’s answer was, “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the Living God.” Do you know Him as Christ the Son of the Living God? Has this revelation settled into your spirit? Is the revelation that Jesus Christ is the Son of the Living God the center force in all that you do? If Jesus was to ask you, “Whom do you say that I am?” How would you answer the question? He knew their thoughts just as He knows our thoughts. As He replied to Peter, “Flesh and blood have not revealed it unto thee, but My Father which is in Heaven” (Matthew 16:17b, KJV). Only the spirit of man that has been redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ can fully comprehend this. If we truly call Jesus our Lord, His spirit will reveal it to us. If we have been born of the spirit of the Living God, it will change us forever. The real success of any life will be because of this knowledge.

“Thou art the Christ.” This knowledge is the rock of our foundation and the gates of hell will not prevail against it. It will cause us to live a true life of faith that cannot be shaken from its foundation. God speaks to us along these lines, asking us to move into the deeper water, to leave the shorelines, to be who He has called us to be. When we have totally committed our lives to Him and determined in our hearts to follow Him, then He will direct our lives. He will open doors. He will close doors. He will see that all the provisions of life are met. What a blessed place to be, to be in the hands of a living God. In this position, faith will grow; doubt will cease.

My prayer for you today is that you allow God to take you to such a place.

By Faith
John Ogden Sr
November 2018

“For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith” (Roman 12:3, NKJV).

We all will agree that the things of God are received by faith. We know salvation comes by faith through grace and that not of ourselves. But, have we really grasped the thought that all things of God are by faith? In verse three it says we are not to think of ourselves more highly than we ought, but it goes on to say we should think soberly as God has given us a measure of faith. This deals with not looking at ourselves, but looking to God, the Author and Finisher of our faith. God’s direction in our life, His will and His provisions are achieved by faith – we are not to rely upon our flesh. We are to rely upon God’s faithfulness. So our confidence is not in us, but in God.

Hebrews 11:1 (NKJV) states, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” The substance is not natural or fleshly, rather it is Godly. It is God’s substance. The evidence is not man’s, instead it is the evidence of what God has already done and will do. When looking to the heroes of our faith found in Hebrews 11, it is interesting to note that 19 times the sentences start out, “By faith.” It is never recorded that these heroes obtained a good report by the flesh; only by faith. In verses 35-38 the Bible records an untold number of people who went through tragedies and difficult times of life. Verse 39 records that, “all of these having obtained a good testimony through faith.”

We go through testing and trials to mold us and make us into His image, but every step of the way must be by faith in God, not in ourselves. We can miss God by trying to accomplish His will through our wisdom and our abilities. Our life must be a total surrender to Him and by faith in Him we will be able to achieve our destiny and our purpose on earth.

We see brothers and sisters in Christ within the ministry who seem to be burned out. This comes at a time when we are trying to carry the burden ourselves and our lamps are not full of oil. I believe God would remind us to follow Him, cast our burdens on Him for He cares for us. Then we can have His peace and His substance for life and direction. Have you laid hold to the things of God by faith?
