An Amazing update from another non-profit we work with in Haiti.

This month we remember all the seniors who are graduating, albeit without the traditional pomp and circumstance. Our Story of Hope focuses on a young man who grew up at our Village of Hope orphanage and whose life embodies truly holistic transformation.

JEAN MARC'S GRADUATION
It is with great pride that we announce that Jean Marc Devarier has officially graduated from Southwestern Christian University. Jean Marc has worked hard to overcome many difficult challenges in his life, but God has given him the grace, talent, and perseverance to succeed.

After his mom passed away in Haiti in 2006, he moved to Mission of Hope’s Village of Hope orphanage at our Titanyen campus and instantly became a leader among his peers. At 19, he was offered a scholarship to study at Southwestern Christian University and moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to pursue a degree in Biblical Studies.

He became more fluent in English as he worked through his college classes and joined college discipleship groups to share Jesus. For additional accountability and growth, he joined the SCU cheerleading squad, and they became the 2019 NCA National Champions!

Jean Marc also excelled in academics. The SCU faculty awarded him Mr. Southwestern 2020 for his scholarship, spirit, and service. He was also elected Homecoming King by his peers. If all that did not keep him busy enough, he also proposed to his girlfriend, Amanda, a former Mission of Hope intern, and they will be married in a few short months.

Even with all these amazing college experiences, Jean Marc’s heart has always been with his family and fellow Haitians. Last summer he returned to Haiti to coordinate sports camps and Vacation Bible Schools with his Village of Hope brothers, sisters, and friends.

Jean Marc is currently serving at a church in Indiana as a two year pastoral resident in preparation for returning to Haiti. Please continue to pray that God will use him mightily to further the Kingdom, both in the United States and in Haiti.

Thank you for playing a vital role in God’s story of transformation in Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and Guatemala. The lives you are impacting are real, and the difference you are making is eternal!

Sincerely,
Mission of Hope

Learners in South Africa school still loving to learn and video themselves to send back via WhatsApp to “show their work”. Way to go kiddos.

Man May order our steps or in the case of the sheltering-in-place non-steps, God will always make a way to his path for his good will. 🙌🏼

A good word (sent to me by a friend) of Martin Luther offering advise during the Black Plague...

“I shall ask God mercifully to protect us. Then I shall fumigate, help purify the air, administer medicine, and take it. I shall avoid places and persons where my presence is not needed in order not to become contaminated and thus perchance inflict and pollute others and so cause their death as a result of my negligence.

If God should wish to take me, he will surely find me, and I have done what he has expected of me and so I am not responsible for either my own death or the death of others. If my neighbor needs me however I shall not avoid place or person but will go freely as stated above. See this is such a God-fearing faith because it is neither brash nor foolhardy and does not tempt God.”
(Martin Luther, Works v. 43, p. 132. Letter “Whether one may flee from a Deadly Plague” written to Rev. Dr. John Hess).

Praying we will all follow this solid advice as we endure what God has sovereignly allowed touching each of our lives.

Happy God Day = Happy Valentines Day

As a wonderful friend reminded use today -
Valentine’s Day is the day that celebrates God‘s character.

The only reason that we know what love is, is because you showed us what it was when you loved us first. 1John 4:8
