DR DREW HART TO SPEAK IN THE ROANOKE VALLEY
Dr. Drew Hart, author of Who Will Be A Witness?, professor at Messiah College and member of the Harrisburg, First Church of the Brethren will be speaking twice in the Roanoke Valley in late September.
Friday, September 26 at 6:30 pm - Dr. Drew Hart, member First Harrisburg COB, will be speaking at Roanoke College:
“Go and Do Likewise”: Reparations, Loving Your Black Neighbor, and the Work of Healing the Wounds of Antiblackness.
This talk will expand and transform how people think about reparations, using Jesus’ parable of the Good Samaritan as a paradigm-shifting lens. We’ll explore the multi-layered work of reparations, but with a foundation rooted in the call to genuinely love Black people by pursuing their collective healing, wellbeing, and thriving.
This event is sponsored by Central Church of the Brethren, Virlina Racial Advocacy Team, and the Roanoke Reparations Group.
Saturday, September 27 10:00 am – 1:00 pm, Dr. Hart will be speaking at Oak Grove Church of the Brethren:
“The Things that Make for Peace”: Racial Justice and the Pathway to Beloved Community.
This session will partially draw on themes from my book Who Will Be A Witness?, while explicitly making the connection between racial justice activism and peacemaking.

Do you love to run or walk 5k? Or cheer on those who do? The Camp Bethel 5K is coming!

Saturday, August 30th. Topeco Church of the Brethren is willing to drive the bus if there's interest. The bus would leave the church at 6:00AM on the 30th and could meet folks in town at 6:15 being the courthouse in the large parking lot.

There is no charge to ride the bus. We look forward to a nice day of fellowship (and exercise for those interested). We plan to stay for the brunch (donations accepted for lunch) and should return to the church by 1:00-1:30. Leave a message here or send us a message on Messenger if you're interested.

What a blessing the ESL/Bilingual play, Fellowship/Meal and Bilingual Singing/Worship were Thursday, December 19th. This wraps up the Christmas services. Stay tuned for what's next.

In the spirit of Christmas, unity and love we invite you to join us tomorrow evening, December 19th at Topeco Church of the Brethren for fellowship, a simple meal and singing Christmas songs together. We're working together to build relationships, learn/practice each other's languages and share time celebrating Christmas together. Christ came to unify all people and it's worth celebrating. We hope you will join us!

En el espíritu de la Navidad, la unidad y el amor, los invitamos a unirse a nosotros mañana por la noche, 19 de diciembre, en la Iglesia de los Hermanos de Topeco para tener compañerismo, una comida sencilla y cantar canciones navideñas juntos. Estamos trabajando juntos para construir relaciones, aprender/practicar los idiomas de los demás y compartir tiempo celebrando la Navidad juntos. It was a blessing to start the Christmas season with a meal and bilingual fellowship last Thursday evening. It started with the ESL class and bilingual play followed by a meal and fellowship. We ended the evening worshipping through the singing of Christmas songs in Spanish & English. It was a beautiful way to celebrate the spirit of unity, peace and love of Christmas and every day.

We hope you will join us this Thursday, December 12th 7:30-8:00 Meal and Fellowship. 8:00-8:30 Bilingual Christmas Singing/Worship and next Thursday, December 19th same time.

Fostering relationships, helping new friends overcome barriers, promoting unity and removing fear through English as Second Language (ESL) classes and bilingual children's playgroups.

Brother Leon Hubbard of Topeco COB joined 3 other Brethren and several Belmont Baptist members to help with disaster relief efforts in Spruce Pine, NC November 14-16, 2024. They cleaned a garage to prepare it for storage of needed materials, helped remove debris and worked to make roofs waterproof and safe for the winter as homeowners wait for insurance settlements and complete repair work. The goal was to help where needed and make homes livable for the winter. Lots of trees and limbs were sawed up and removed from yards, driveways, etc.
