Romans 2:16 And this is the message I proclaim—that the day is coming when God, through Christ Jesus, will judge everyone’s secret life.

The judgment of God—the judgment of the only living and true God—is to be executed by Jesus Christ and His gospel. A specific day of judgment is coming. It’s fixed, and in that day your secrets will be judged. All secrets will be exposed, the secret thoughts and deeds done in the dark, behind closed doors, off to the side, silently, alone, and quietly. Jesus Christ is the One who will do the judging. He’s the One who has earned the right to judge by obeying God perfectly. He’s the One who has lived a sinless life and died for us. He’s the One who has experienced life on earth in the flesh and can understand and sympathize with us in our infirmities. The standard or rule by which we will be judged is the gospel. And this is the message I proclaim—that the day is coming when God, through Christ Jesus, will judge everyone’s secret life. Amen! For sermons visit YouTube Evelyn Craighead and click subscribe.

1 John 4:19 We love Him because He first loved us.

Loving one another proves that we love God, but how do we know that we love God? We know that we love God because we know God's love for us. He loves us and we have seen His love, therefore, we love Him. We know that we love God because we don’t hate our brother. If we love God, it’s impossible to hold feelings against our brother. Why? Because God is love. If we have the nature of God in us, then we love our brothers. We can’t see God, but we can see our brothers. It’s far easier to love someone in this world whom we can see than it is to love someone we can’t see. Therefore, if we say we love God and hate those whom we see, we’re lying.
And we know that we love God because we keep His commandment. What is His commandment? If we love God, we’re to love our brothers also. Amen! For sermons visit YouTube Evelyn Craighead and click subscribe.

Matthew 11:29-30 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."

This is a great invitation—take my yoke upon you, and learn of me. But why should you take up the yoke of Christ? Why should you begin to learn of Christ? First, Christ is meek and lowly. Some owners of oxen were mean and harsh both in their training and in their working of the oxen, but not Christ. He was meek and lowly, considerate and understanding, mild and gentle, longsuffering and encouraging to every person who came to Him. Second, you will find rest, and there are two different rests promised by Jesus Christ, and they’re the two greatest rests imaginable. There’s the rest of salvation or justification. This is the rest of deliverance from the slavery and bo***ge of sin, and the power of Christ to conquer the enslaving habits that damage the human body and destroy the human soul. It’s the rest of conscience that comes to your soul when you stop your struggle in the wilderness of sin. It’s the rest of conquest and triumph which you experience when you conquer the enemies of sin and evil through the power of Christ—day by day. It’s the rest of victory through the daily storms of life. Then there’s the rest of sanctification or pleasure and satisfaction, or confidence and completeness. But this rest isn’t a rest of inactivity, or no work, or an endless sleep, or the right to laziness. It’s a rest of refreshment—a rest of refreshing your body, mind, and spirit. It’s a rest that fits you for life—a rest that infuses you with true purpose, meaning, and significance. It’s a rest of encouragement and motivation of your soul—a rest that stirs you to live and undertake your God-given task with enthusiasm, vigor, and endurance. Third, Christ's yoke is easy and His burden is light. The yoke refers to an oxen's yoke. The yoke was a wooden collar-like instrument placed on the neck and shoulders of the oxen. It was used for tying the ropes of a plough to the oxen or for tying whatever load he had to pull. It was extremely important that the yoke be fitted for the shoulders of the oxen to prevent rubbing the flesh raw and causing sores. At first the oxen might have rebelled against the yoke, but he soon learned that it eased the burden of pulling. The yoke refers to your life and task while here on earth. Easy can also mean well-fitting. Christ is saying that His yoke, His life and task, are fitted to you. It’s just what you need, and it’s easy, it’s the easiest life and task you can live and undertake. Christ is meek and lowly. He cares and looks after you—He’s concerned and compassionate knowing how far you can go and how capable you are. God made you, therefore, He has the right yoke—the right life and task for you. but what are the conditions for finding this rest? And there’s only one condition. You must simply take Christ's yoke and begin to learn of Him. This simply means that you’re to learn how to live and labor under His leadership, under His direction, guidance, and care. Every person has his yoke, that is, every person has his life to live and his task to do while here on earth. From birth you learn from others how to live and how to do your task. Some teachers are hard taskmasters, and most courses in life lead to exhaustion and living under heavy burdens. The only taskmaster who can teach and assure true rest of body, mind, and spirit is Christ, and the only yoke that really fits and proves to be easy is the yoke or life and task of Christ. This is a command. If you want rest, you must take His yoke upon you. It’s easy. Amen! For sermons visit YouTube Evelyn Craighead and click subscribe.

James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

Wisdom acts, conquers, and gains victory over the trials and temptations of life. But if you lack that kind of wisdom—if you don’t understand—if you don’t know how to conquer life or some trial and temptation—then there’s one sure way to get wisdom—ASK. Ask God for wisdom to conquer the trials and temptations of life, and then notice the wonderful promises made to us when we do ask. God will give us wisdom, God will give us a liberal amount, an abundance of wisdom, and God will not reproach or rebuke us—He won’t scold us—for not knowing how to handle the trial of temptation. The idea is that God won’t even question us for lacking wisdom and for not knowing what to do. God loves us—we are His sons and daughters. He’s our Father, and He wants to meet our every need. Therefore, as believers, God will hear our request and cry, and He will give us the wisdom to conquer the trials and temptations of life, but we must ask. Amen! Psalm 51:12 Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit.

David didn’t ask God to restore his salvation, because he knew it had never been lost. Instead, he asked God to restore the joy of his salvation. God’s greatest gift to us is His salvation. As believers, nothing can bring greater joy to our lives than knowing that our sins are forgiven, that we’re living in victory over sin and basking in God’s presence. David’s unconfessed sin had choked this joy out of his heart for nearly a year. In order to be upheld or sustained when facing future temptations, David asked God for an additional gift—a free or willing spirit. David desired a spirit of integrity, one that would always do the right thing and obey God. When Christ purchased our redemption on the cross, He bought back everything that sin cost us. This doesn’t mean that we won’t suffer the natural consequences of sin. We can’t undo the damage we inflict on ourselves and others when we sin—which is a tragic truth that we should seriously consider when we’re tempted. But as this Scripture teaches, we can be restored. God can heal us from the wounds of our sin, and He stands ready to give back what we forfeit when we give in to temptation. Many believers who commit terrible sin feel that they have no hope, or that things can never be the same as they once were. But God’s grace is greater than our sin. We can be restored to God. We can be forgiven and cleansed. God can bring peace to our guilty consciences. We can know the joy of fellowship with God once again. We can enter into God’s presence again. We can be cleansed within and given the strength to stand against temptation. We can know the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives again. However, these things can only take place if we genuinely confess and repent of our sin—if we turn from our sin and turn to God. We also need to remember that healing usually takes time. When we sin, we severely wound our souls and spirits. As physical wounds take time to heal, so do spiritual wounds. As we continue to walk in fellowship with God, His love and grace will soothe the pain of our sin. Eventually, the wounds on our spirits will heal, and we will once again enjoy the fullness of joy and the abundant life Christ gives us. Amen! Psalm 95:1 Oh come, let us sing to the LORD! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation.

We’re urged to sing to the LORD because He’s the Rock of our salvation. We’re urged to praise God jubilantly. We’re to make a joyful noise, we’re to shout loudly and victoriously. We’re to use that full-throated cry that’s fit for a King who’s the Savior of His people. Indeed, the Lord is the rock of our salvation. So come on, let us sing to the LORD! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation. Amen! For sermons visit YouTube Evelyn Craighead.

Psalm 119:76 Now let your unfailing love comfort me, just as you promised me, your servant.

This is a request, because sometimes your suffering is far from over, and you need God’s help in order to continue to endure it. And it’s to that end, that you make a thoughtful request of God that His unfailing love will comfort you just as He promised. You pray that God’s merciful kindness, His unfailing covenant love, will continue to comfort you. You ask the Lord to demonstrate His faithful love to you in your hour of need, and you ask God to continue consoling you and encouraging you through His lovingkindness, just as He promised. Just make a simple request to God—to let His unfailing love comfort you, just as He promised you, His servant. Amen! For sermons visit YouTube Evelyn Craighead and click subscribe.

Revelation 2:4 Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love.

This is a complaint—because the church has lost its first love. The church and its believers have lost their feelings for Christ. As a believer, you have left your first love. Christ is no longer first in your life. You’re putting yourself and your own affairs first, and you’re putting the church first—the church programs, services, ministries, and fellowship of the church. You’ve become more attached to the church than you are to Christ. You’ve lost your feelings of warmth and tenderness for Christ. You’ve lost your sensitivity to Christ, your fervor, your spark, your unction. You’re not fellowshipping and communing, nor praying and sharing with Christ—not like you did when you were first converted. You’re not walking in a consciousness and awareness of Christ's presence, joying and rejoicing in Him throughout the day. Simply stated, you’re not having personal fellowship with Christ, you’re not walking and sharing with Him like you once did. You’re not as attached to Christ as you have been. You’re more attached to other things and other involvements of life. You love your church, and you have the right beliefs, and you’re even ready to fight for the truth of Christ. But you don’t love Christ, not in a personal and intimate way, not to the degree that you walk and share with Him, fellowshipping and communing with Him all throughout the day, not in the sense that you take blocks of time and get alone with Him and pray and share with Him. Picture a young man who falls in love with a young lady. He wants to spend time with her and share with her. He wants to become attached to her and make her first in his life. This should always be our desire with Christ. But the church has also lost its love for people. The church saw a rupture take place in its fellowship and in its love for one another. When the church was first founded, a deep love existed among the members. The church had a loving heart and a helping hand, a readiness to labor together, even through persecution. But something happened. What? There’s no explanation. So all the negative things that rupture a fellowship or erase love are applicable—criticism, grumbling, jealousy, and a selfish mind. If any of this is you, come back to Jesus—come back to your first love. Amen! For sermons visit YouTube Evelyn Craighead and click subscribe.
