All of the language we listen to is going to form the way we live, the language we meditate on is going to change what we hope for in life and death... Jesus has declared that death has no more lasting power over us... will you listen to those words? Jesus has said we belong to Him, the good shepherd and he will care for us.... will you live like that? Jesus has said he is the fountain of life, bread from heaven, the living water who has come to eternally satisfy... are these words and this language the content of our meditation or is the world calling us somewhere else?

Even if it's 5 minutes in the morning, the afternoon, and the evening, let your days be littered with the gospel of Jesus and apply it to every moment. If you are thinking, "I've got no idea how to even start doing that..." Well, guess what, you now have 5 elders in this church that would love nothing more than to sit with you, pray with you, and think through with you how to do that in your own life. May we all continue to grow in "Meditating on the Restorative Power of a Good Word".

Jesus has come to restore a Gospel Grammar into hearts that were broken, lost, damaged, and darkened. As we trust in Jesus to restore and renew our language both in what we convey, and how we receive and what we receive, the Word takes our sinful words and forgives them by taking our punishment on Himself, and declaring on the cross, with language... "It is finished". Trust the language of the Son of God my friends, you are forgiven in Him.

My friends, we are not designed to endure these things alone. We do so as a body, as a church, reminding each other when the times are tough who Jesus is. That why the Lord gave me an old pastor to talk to this week... He knew I needed it. Avail yourself to reading and studying and listening to the words of the Lord as they are in the Psalms and the Gospels and the histories and throughout the Bible... The Spirit will take these words on the page and turn them into words of life that point us toward an eternal and perfect relief... and eternal and perfect relief that we get to experience even today...

All our anguish and lament is being resolved in God’s timing. He didn’t cause the problem, we did, but the scriptures proclaim that he is fixing it progressively, in His timing and one day, all anguish and lament and death will be wiped away from the world. Today, may we trust that “The Lord Turns Anguish to Joy all in His Timing”.

When a sheep is confused and wanders off, the sheep dog is sent by the shepherd to bring him or her back to the fold... When the sheep feels far off, away from the flock, lost in the wilderness, the sheep dog guides the beloved animal back to its master.

My friends, how is the Spirit guiding you back to Jesus even this morning? Where is that deep pocket of your heart that feels hard, or callous, or indifferent toward Jesus? What sorrow or grief or sinful pattern seems to have overtaken you and you’ve been trying to secretly fight this battle on your own?

You are not alone. The Lord has given you His Spirit, He has given you His Word, He has given you this communion of the saints, He has given you purpose, He has given you life, and the Spirit uses all of it, and so much, to sheep dog you back to Jesus. He promises that He will reorient us because we can’t do it on your own. When you feel Him moving your heart, so suppress it or ignore it, see where the Spirit of God is leading you... because, “The Spirit Teaches Us What It Means to Be Truly Human”.

Let me ask you this... because it really up to you... Do you want Jesus to take over those parts of your heart and infiltrate those areas of selfishness? Or would you prefer to perpetuate a divided kingdom within your very soul? The reality is beloved, you are starve one and feed the other. Jesus tells us a man or a woman cannot serve two masters...

It will feel like dying having the testimony of Jesus shine into those dark corners, it will feel like you are losing a piece of yourself... and that’s because you are. But remember, Jesus is the master surgeon... He only cuts those bits out of your heart that are poisoning the rest of you. He only slices in areas that will save you. Don’t hate the work of the Spirit ministering the testimony of Jesus even to those most embattled parts of your heart. Don’t despise the fact that Jesus is Lord over what you watch, and speak, and long for. He is Lord over your leisure, he is ruler over your rest, He is the master of our money... but in all of this, though we lose our autonomy, we gain Jesus. And yes, the world externally and the world within each of us will hate this and will do everything in it’s power to maintain control... But in the end, Jesus delivers what nothing else ever could. Embrace the tension and fight this good fight together, my friends. Because we are “Loved by Jesus, Hated by the World, & That’s Where We want to Be!”

All you do to receive this salvation is to recognize and admit where you have been trapped by your own sin and followed the wrong master. Admit it to the Lord and recognize that sin leads to the grave, run from it, but turn and run to Jesus instead. Ask Him to forgive you... because on the cross He does. Ask Him to be your friend, and Savior, and Lord... As you do this, know that you are talking to a living and resurrected Christ that will do what He says He will! If you’re not a Christian or if you are, this friend is for all of us. believe in your heart, trust in your heart, let your mind be transformed by the reality that Jesus lived to give you His goodness, He died to take away your badness, He was resurrected to give you new life, and He reigns in Heaven right now as your friend.

My friends, if you want to do this and you need help, I’d invite you to reach out to me or one of the elders, or come talk with me after the service... I will say, the most relevant, influential, applicable reality in the entire world is that your friend Jesus has rescued you, and that changes your relationship between you and God and you and others. Happy Sunday my friends and remember to always be “Connecting the Resurrection to Everyday Life in Love”. Because Jesus changes everything.

The joy we have been given in Jesus was purchased by Jesus at the cross and it was secured for us in His resurrection. Because our Lord delighted in you and me so much, He became the vine the feeds the branches. The branches receive their nourishment, their life... their joy from Him! And what exactly is Joy? A synonym for joy that is produced in knowing Jesus can be the word, “Delight”. The fruit we produce grows out of our delight in the Lord. It’s not the other way around... trying to save yourself and being super Christian does produce delight... Rather, it’s the other way around, have the Father, the Son, and the Spirit becoming your source of true delight will produce fruit that reflects the goodness of God and it produces joy in you that is inexpressible and cannot be found anywhere else.

Here is a 3-question test you can take home with you to see what is impressing and forming your heart... First, has Jesus delivered me from this thing or is He leading me into this thing? Second, is what I am doing, reading, watching, or speaking, does that coincide with the good and loving commands of the heart of my heavenly Father? Third, if I listen to this, or become entertained by this, or let this thing make a deep impression on me and I begin too look like it, is the Spirit of God or the Spirit of this world teaching me this?

Beloved, may we all be “Taught by the Spirit, Claimed by the Father, To Believe in the Son”.
