Beloved, we have had this invitation given to us by Jesus, to eat with Him, to dine with Him, to be satisfied in Him through His word, by His Spirit, through prayer, and communion, and by the mutual encouragement of the church... Jesus has given us means to gain His presence. This is His heavenly hospitality that is enabling us to fellowship with Him.

Not only that, in the same way He blessed Peter with restoration, this blaspheming denier of the son of God... we too have the same Gospel, Jesus grants us the same restoration... all we have to do is repent, to honestly desire to hate that which has separated us from God and to rest and rely on Jesus alone for our salvation. When we do this, it’s not just a matter of getting the title of Christian...

But like Peter, Jesus bids us to come and follow Him. He does it with Peter, he tells it to John, and my friends it’s what He is calling us to as well, if we are disciples of Jesus. How is the Lord calling you? Where is He leading you in this season? Because I can tell you it’s not into those things that we revert to when we feel despondent or distant like the disciples fishing or my consumerism...

No Jesus is calling each of us into the good life to follow Him with our heart, soul, mind, and strength. And as we do, we are truly satisfied in Him, He is glorified in us, and we get to share the same invitation of Jesus’ hospitality, restoration, and discipleship with other desperate, despondent, and distracted people looking for a Savior.

You see my friends, “Heavenly Hospitality Enlivens our Pursuit of Jesus”.

When you sit down to read the word of God, to grow as a disciple, to understand the peace we have with God because of Jesus, the grace that we can have with each other, the hope that enters into difficult situations, the love that covers a multitude of sins, that security that can even come in the face of fear, the life that came out of death... when we sit down to read and understand and to grow as followers of Jesus, we do so through the power of His Spirit, the one who gives us life and breath, the one who illuminates our minds to see Jesus clearly in the text. He is the one who ministers Jesus’ presence to us in a special way... a special way that is a blessing for those of us who believe and have not seen but now know.

Whenever you approach the scriptures to grow in your understanding and communion of the resurrected Christ, ask the Spirit of God to grant you the eyes, ears, and heart to understand the peace of Jesus, through the words of Jesus, with the help of the Spirit of Jesus. And ultimately, the result of this will be for you to confess and believe that “Jesus is Who He Says He is and That Gives Us Peace”.

Here is what I want to leave us with... Jesus, the resurrected Savior, Messiah, King over all, rose from the grave after securing your forgiveness in His death... Think back to a time when you had an ailment that was cured, or a difficult situation relieved, and it feels like the sky is bluer, the world is a bit more enjoyable, the little things become special things... Beloved, the power of the resurrection reorients us. It reforms us to live in this world with the understanding that God is making all things new...

That He has given us a gospel that bears resurrection power from the past, it permeates our present, and fortifies our future... The Lord gives us life and renews our strength, enables us to love, gives us a hunger and thirst for righteousness, grants us wisdom, allows us to extend grace, hones us with humility, and enables us to experience the fulfilment of Jesus’ past accomplishments in this present moment... Beloved, put off those David Hume glasses thinking that this power is trapped in the past... Ask the Spirit to teach you to trust in these realities and live like they are powerful and real and available to you everyday. By God’s grace may we recognize that “Resurrection Power Restores Our True Humanity”.

May this be an encouragement to our souls; this salvation wrought in Christ is a grace whereby we respond in newness of life. When Jesus says, “It is finished” and we say “Amen” that is becomes the guiding light and the confession of our lives. It’s our of this reality we experience the salvation of God and that changes everything. Beloved, may we all in this room be struck again by the reality that, Jesus declares at the Cross, “It is Finished” and we respond by believing, trusting, resting, and receiving this grace that He has given and live out the “Amen.” “It is Finished... Amen.”

Beloved, the more you learn to pick up on those seemingly insignificant whispers in the New Testament that are being echoed from the Old... your faith will grow. You will begin to look at the cross with greater depth as you understand the sacrificial system of Leviticus, or the Covenant Laws of Deuteronomy, or the wisdom from God come from Proverbs, or the Suffering Servant from Job, the Promises that come from Isaiah, the worship restored at the cross is recognized in the Psalms...

Is this not the most cutting question of all. With your Bibles still open to John 18, and check out v.38. Take a moment, and read that to yourself... take a moment, and think about how you would answer that question... I’ll give you a few seconds to contemplate...

“What, is, Truth?” Beloved, Jesus in John 17 showed us that truth is to know God and to be transformed by renewed communion with Him. And the only way that renewed communion is possible. The only way to truly know truth, to truly know your purpose for this world, to truly know the trajectory of the cosmos, the meaning of life, the way to live, work, love, suffer, and even die... to do all of these things in truth, to live, is to put on the perspective of Jesus as our ultimate joy; it is to know the Truth, and not just a concept, but a person. Namely, the King of Truth, King Jesus.

My friends, Jesus has spoken, may we all pursue His truth and His Kingdom as the ultimate perspective for all of life... when we have questions, let us run to him and learn alongside each other knowing that “The King of Truth Provides us Kingdom Perspective”.

So, please, don’t beat yourselves up, Jesus has already taken the beating of a betrayer for you. Rather, run to Him, confess where you have failed, and ask Him to renew your calendar, and your family worship, and your tv watching habits, and the places where you find comfort, rest, or status... And by the Spirit of God’s great mercy, you will find that communion with the Father, through the faithful rescuing work of the Son will be your only and truest sense of faithfulness and satisfaction in this world, and in turn your life will reflect this faith-filled faithfulness to Jesus. You see, “Following the Faithful Messiah Stabilizes Our Faith”.

In Hebrews 7:25, it says, “25 Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.” Jesus is always lives to make intercession for His people as our Great High Priest.... And this pray from John 17 is His Great High Priestly Prayer... these are the words He prayed to His Father before going to the cross to satiate His Father’s anger against us as the good and perfect sacrifice. These are the words that the Savior prayed knowing that He would rise from the dead, that His Spirit would take His words and apply them to our souls.

Embrace this prayer beloved, study it, learn these words. Be strengthened to know that Christ has secured eternal life for you and for me... He prayed for it, the Father answered, and that Jesus is still praying and the Father is still answering, even as we live on mission sharing this good word. What a comfort it is to know that, "Jesus Has Prayed, Is Praying, and Will Pray For Us".
