Joseph Parish’s outreach efforts to the people of Haiti have their beginning in the mid 1980, when they were invited, through the Haiti Twining Program, to partner with the people of St. James Parish is located in the northern part of Haiti, about fifteen miles southeast of Cap Haitian, in the town of Plaine du Nord. It was founded by French missionary priests and has served the community of Pl

aine du Nord for over three hundred years. Currently there are over 10,000 parishioners in St. James Parish operates both a primary and a secondary school. Given the high rate of illiteracy among the people, these schools provide children a possible step up from the poverty into which they were born. The primary school provides an education for 400 children. There is a great need for financial assistance for most of the 180 students who attend this school. In addition to the academic instruction, the students in both the primary and secondary schools receive a hot meal at noon which is often the only food they will have for the day. Over the years, members of the parish have worked with the people of St. James on several other projects. One such project is constructing and maintaining clean water pumps for the community around Plaine du Nord. Another project has been to help the women of the parish establish sustaining businesses. Among these businesses are sewing clothes and raising chickens.

As we come closer to Christmas please take time to reflect on what is really important. If you are STRUGGLING to come up with one more gift for someone, it is probably because they already have everything they need. Instead show them you care about them by helping someone in need in their honor. You have an opportunity to help feed these incredible kids in Haiti. If you struggle to help feed kids in an unfamiliar place, remember there are opportunities everywhere to help kids. Please help a kid in need this Christmas.

Update: With less than two weeks till Christmas please take time to reflect on what is really important. GIFTS OF COMPASSION FUNDRAISER - Goal is to raise over $10,000 to feed the students (we have come close to $8,000 one year, so I know we can do it.)
Through generous donations we have been able to send funds to feed the children 5 days a week for the first trimester (see attached photos and video) we are working securing funds for 2nd and 3rd Trimesters
In order to continue this we need your support. Every year during Advent we have a Gift of Compassion program to raise money for food. We want to encourage everyone to participate. See the attached flyer. If you are unable to get by the St. Joseph Church to get some Christmas cards, but still want to make a donation in someone's honor or memory please do so. Checks can be mailed to St. Joseph Parish 6202 W. St. Joseph Rd Evansville, IN 47720. Please put Gifts of Compassion in the memo. If you don't have checks and want to make a donation you can Venmo and I will see that the funds get to St. Joseph Haiti Outreach.
