(Psalm 127:3) Children are a gift from the Lord, they are a reward from Him!
Oh, how we love our babies and families at Lake Eufaula Christian Church! Just as Hannah dedicated baby Samuel, or Mary and Joseph dedicated Jesus, we want to thank God for the gift and blessing of our children.
So, that everyone has an understanding, let’s take a minute to quickly define what child dedication at LECC means. Then we’ll answer some frequently asked questions.
What it’s NOT…
*Child Dedication is NOT infant baptism or future salvation for your children.
*Child Dedication is NOT a substitute for them making a future personal decision to follow Christ.
*Child Dedication is NOT just for the child, it’s more an act of accountability for the parents.
What it IS…
*Child Dedication is a time of prayer to thank God for the gift of your children.
*Child Dedication is a time to publicly declare your intention to raise your children according to God’s ways.
*Child Dedication is a time to commit yourself to being the spiritual leader and example for your children.
*Child Dedication is also a time for the church family to come alongside and commit to partner with you as you lead your child spiritually.
FAQ’s…
Who can participate?
Child dedication is open to parents, who as baptized believers and followers of Christ, can truthfully say, “I will commit myself to raising my child to know the Lord Jesus Christ by loving, discipling, training up, and setting a positive, Christ-like example.” Membership at LECC is not required. However, parents who are unmarried and living together are asked to wait until they are married to dedicate their child.
Is there an age limit?
Although normally parents choose to dedicate their babies from birth to 2 years, we also welcome families who might be new to faith or have a child that has been adopted. Families can participate with school-aged children at any age.
Can other family members join us on stage for the ceremony?
For the stage portion of the ceremony, we ask that only the children being dedicated and their custodial parents or guardians participate. Other family members will have picture opportunities, and are encouraged to sit in the congregation and can express their support by standing while their family’s child is dedicated.
