I know I’ve already posted a lot of pictures recently, but I’m still playing catch-up from having not posted any in a long while. Here’s a collection of pictures from our time so far at Camp that don’t neatly fit into any one category.

Housekeeping Pictures

Housekeeping is not a super glamorous job, and I’m sure you don’t need pictures of me cleaning and sitting doing desk work, but I thought I’d share some of the things that have been photo-worthy so far. Here are some pictures from getting my own desk, getting new sheets for all of Camp’s Adult Housing, the mountain of laundry after Family Bible conference, the cutest desk-work companion ever, and the progress/changes we’ve made in our adult housing spaces; enjoy!

Petting Zoo Projects Pictures
While a lot has happened inside the new barn, we’ve also done a lot out in the pastures. From building hutches and coops and pens to cleaning up the space in general, we’ve put in a lot of work to make the Petting Zoo as a whole more functional and more presentable, and we’re not done yet! Watch for more pictures to come as we do a big fall clean up and work on completing more projects this fall.

Petting Zoo Barn build photo dump!
It’s amazing to look back and see how far the barn has come since being built this spring. I know there’s still a lot to do, but it’s nice to be reminded of how much has already been done.

It was so great to have campers around again! It’s been four years since we were last here for Summer Camp, and we are so SO happy that we are here before we missed another. AND to make things even better, we were able to get the Petting Zoo up and running in time to be used this year! God’s timing and provision are so wonderful!

April ‘21 Newsletter (TL,DR: We’ve officially moved to Kentucky and are getting settled in.)

Moved In!
The last six weeks have been a whirlwind of boxes and paperwork, so I thank you for your patience with the delay of this update, but boy, is it a good one! The first couple weeks of March were fairly normal; Nate finished his time at Schrier Plastics, I scheduled the termination or transition of most of our bills, and we prepared for our visit to Camp. Our trip down in mid-March was very helpful and was a good pause before the craziness of moving began. We stayed in “our” house on Camp, which gave us, Caleb, and the dogs a bit of familiarity when we moved in (a small, but very helpful thing). We also toured the house that we are considering buying, and though it would need a few minor updates, it is move-in ready, and we are all the more excited about a potential future there. We have decided to not try to purchase and move in before Summer Camp, and will wait until this fall to move forward in the pursuit of purchasing, should that be where God continues to lead us.
Our move was surprisingly smooth considering how quickly it happened; we owe many thanks to the family and friends who helped make it possible. Since our arrival here at Camp Nathanael, we’ve been settling things inside the house and working on making the address change official. We already got our new driver’s licenses; it took us a total of fifteen minutes and we left with the actual ID cards in-hand! SO much better than the Michigan Secretary of State! We also go our own PO Box here in Emmalena, and we’ll be getting updated prayer cards to you with our next update, which will be the first week of June (rather than the first week of May). After that we’ll return to our regularly scheduled program of updates at the beginning of every month.

Petting Zoo Updates
Eight out of nine of our rabbits have already moved to Camp Nathanael! We have started building outdoor hutches for them, which will give them more space and save time in cleaning up after them.
Twelve chicks have recently joined the Petting Zoo. Nate’s mom got us six Buff Orpingtons, which are about 3 weeks old now, and I just got six Sapphire Gems, which are less than a week old! These ladies will not only be great additions to the Petting Zoo, they’ll also be great egg layers when they grow up!
We still have some work to do before our goats, mini-horse, and mini-donkey can move down. The PZ building is not quite finished yet, and some new fencing needs to be put up, but those will be getting done soon.

Also Pray For
We recently bought a horse trailer, which makes moving animals MUCH easier. However, it has highlighted the upcoming need for a larger truck. My truck’s backseat seems to get smaller every day (or maybe Caleb is getting bigger?) and while it can and does pull the trailer, it doesn’t do so easily or economically. We’re not in a terrible hurry to take on a car payment, but we’ll need to upgrade at some point. Pray for both patience and wisdom on our behalf.
My uncle, Karl, who is struggling with depression, and for wisdom on our part to know how to support him in this season.
Our next six weeks will be spent gearing up for Summer Camp, and getting oriented to living and working here with SMMM. Pray for rest, focus, and clarity for us, and let us know how we can be praying for you!

Love in Christ,
Haley Block

Petting Zoo Introductions pt 3 - Rabbits!

This group of super soft Mini Rexes are all from the same litter! Part of our Gas Station Gang, these siblings are all named after snacks you'd find in a gas station convenience store. Each of their names, genders, and color patterns are in their picture's description so you can get to know more about them.

These guys have already moved to Camp Nathanael and are super excited to meet Campers this coming summer!

It's so exciting to see progress being made so quickly! We SO appreciate all of the time that has gone into preparing a place for us at SMMM. Not too much longer before we and our critters make our way to our new home in Kentucky.

Petting Zoo Introductions! (pt 2)

Meet Pumpkin! She may be small, but she is fierce! This sassy little pony doesn’t back down to anyone, no matter how big they are. Pumpkin likes being in charge, being petted or brushed, and grass and grain. Pumpkin dislikes spray bottles, anyone who challenges her reign, and anything canine. She and Jack share some likes/dislikes and a pasture; they get along great as long as Jack remembers that SHE is the boss. Princess Pumpkin can’t wait to meet all of her new “subjects” at Camp Nathanael, where she’ll expect daily pampering!

Petting Zoo Introductions! (pt 1)

Meet Jack (aka Jack-Jack or Jack-a-boy). He may look a bit familiar, he’s been in a post here before. This sweet boy is a Miniature Donkey, he’s less than 3’ tall at the shoulder! Jack loves people who pet him, and grass and grain (can you tell?) Jack dislikes canines, wild or domestic, and bullies (like that mean old billy goat). We’re so excited to have him moving to Camp Nathanael with us, and we’re sure he’s ecstatic to meet new people to love him!

DID YOU KNOW.....that SMMM is building a BRAND NEW Petting Zoo Barn? I am so excited to move in and get all of our fluffy friends settled!
Check out these pictures of the barn floor being poured, and watch for more updates on the progress, as well as introductions to our future Petting Zoo residents.
