Sunday’s worship focus is on the second of a trifecta of parables Jesus shared during the final days of His life. This particular parable hits right between the eyes as it pins to the wall those to whom the Lord gave His vineyard to manage. They in turn refused to listen to Him, to produce the fruits He rightly expected, and even went so far as to kill the Son, surmising this would leave them the rightful “heirs” of the vineyard. Our Lord certainly is patient as He seeks fruits in our lives. By the same token He doesn’t suffer fools to take over His kingdom. May His Spirit bless us with the right insight gleaned from the parable of the tenants.

Did you know there’s a third Son in the Parable of the Two Sons?

When Jesus confronted the religious leaders in Matthew 21, He wasn't setting a trap—He was trying to release them from one. So many of us live trapped in the idea that God only loves us if we measure up, perform well, or follow the rules better than everyone else. But Jesus turns human standards completely upside down.

In this sermon from Matthew 21, Pastor Michael Quandt shows how John the Baptist and Jesus point us away from our own performance and toward the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. Repentance isn't about performing for God; it's about seeing our sin, seeing our Savior, and finding true rest in His completed work.

Sunday’s worship focus reminds us that pretending to look like a religious person is nothing but fraudulent belief that God can see right through. Actions speak louder than words, and when a person’s life demonstrates (to God) no activity of humble repentance, no heartfelt remorse over offending God’s will, and no pleading for mercy through the blood of Christ-crucified, much less changing the sinful behavior, then that person is likely nothing but a con-artist. May we all pray to God to keep us genuine in faith, repentance, and obedience that we do not lose the crown of life that comes to us only through Christ!

Our annual Abiding Peace Pumpkin Patch opens October 10 and will be open daily 11am-7pm. All proceeds will go toward stocking the local food pantry and filling holiday food boxes. We look forward to seeing you there!
