A Call to Fasting and Prayer for Ferris Fire & Our Firefighters

Beloved church, and cherished neighbors of Dolores County—
while I still have the privilege of standing in this pulpit, I feel compelled to call us into a holy fast and a united prayer for the Ferris Fire and for every operator, crew member, and brave soul laboring to protect our land.

This is not a fast for personal physique, not a fast for discipline or appearance.

This is a fast for fire suppression, a fast for mercy, a fast for resolve.

I’m asking our people to fast wisely and safely this week—each according to strength, health, and capacity. Some may fast a meal. Some may fast a day. Some may fast from comforts or conveniences. What matters is not the size of the sacrifice but the sincerity of the cry.

We are seeking the presence of God’s grace over our county, our forests, our homes, and the firefighters who stand between us and devastation.

Prayer:

O merciful God,
stretch Your hand over the Ferris Fire.
Temper the winds, steady the crews, and shield every firefighter with Your covering.
Protect our land, protect Your people, and protect the brave men and women who stand in harm’s way for our sake.
Let Your grace fall like rain,
Your peace settle like ash after the storm,
and Your strength uphold every operator battling on the line.
Hear our fasting.
Honor our prayer.
And bring resolve, relief, and protection to Dolores County.

Pastoral transition announcement

With gratitude and prayer, we share that Rev. Nicholas Sybrowsky has resigned from his role as pastor of First Assembly of God, Dove Creek, CO, effective September 6th, to enter a season of renewal and preparation for future ministry.

Sunday, June 14th, 2026, he preached a resignation message titled "Retrograde Refit: Dry Docking for Renewal," offering context, gratitude, and a theological framing of this transition.

Our elders and leadership team are implementing a careful, prayerful transition plan. Sunday services will continue to be covered by faithful preachers; pastoral care will be coordinated by the elders; and we will communicate timelines and interim arrangements in the days ahead. This is a planned pastoral season—not a crisis—and we trust God’s steady hand over our congregation.

The annual community crosswalk took place this morning, featuring a chilly yet picturesque atmosphere. We would like to thank everyone who participated in our prayers for the community's churches, schools, county, and city, as well as those who requested prayer. It is inspiring to see the community unite in this way.

Our appreciation also goes to Charlotte and the Dinner Bell for the delicious hot breakfast burritos.

Let this be a moment to slow down.
To listen.
To give.
