My interest expands beyond the typical loss of a person but includes the loss of a job, soecial relationship, one’s good health, etc.

Turning my pain into passion. This week, my foundation, the Mikayla Cares Foundation hosted a swim kit giveaway at Burnett Elementary School in Douglasville, GA. The foundation provided more than 400 swim kits to students to prepare them to have a safe summer in the water. The kit includes: a swim vest or flotation device, googles, earplugs, swim cap, and swim education materials.

Good morning friends. If today is a hard day for you I am praying that before the day ends you will experience some peace and reassurance that brighter days are ahead. Daily parents are faced with the horror of losing a child. My heart aches each time I read an article or watch a news report. The diversity of the deaths run the gamut- car crash, gun violence, childhood illness, drowning, and undiagnosed conditions.

None of us are prepared. And while I’ve been on this journey for almost 11 years I continue to be lost for words.

The thought that comes to my mind over and over again is “parents are supposed to outlive their children”.

It is definitely a logical thought but clearly not a mandate.

But nevertheless I think about the awesome short life my daughter had. She experienced things I never experienced at her age. She was loved by so many. She touched so many lives and her passing really pushed some of our family and friends to think about their lives- their faith.

I would be lying if I said everyone was inspired to get to know God. Actually the opposite was true- many had questions- they struggled with the fact that Mikayla was just a baby. I struggled with that too.

I miss my baby girl. I am repeatedly reminded of all the things I will never experience with her.

Just a day of reflection- grateful to know and believe Romans 8:28- all things work together for the good to them who are called according to His purpose.

I know it is working out but I still miss her.
