Happy Labor Day!

This week, my wife and I decided to try to visit every Eaton Country Cemetery. There are about 53 believe it or not.

I’m working on a project at Benton Township Cemetery.
A big job going on there.

We went to West Benton Cemetery. It’s very odd. One large monument called a “Cenotaph”. That means they can’t find the graves.
The first family I researched is actually buried in Charlotte!
There’s one lone grave of Private Parsons. And two enormous pine trees.

We went to Strange Cemetery. It was beautiful!
Perfectly mowed and weeded. Beautiful setting with a great fence. They have an urn box that’s brand new. A very well cared for and preserved cemetery. We were impressed. The only thing “Strange”was that it was so well cared for.

Then we went to Oneida Township’s Pioneer Cemetery.
There’s no sign. But a nice fence. It’s well kept in the front.
Years ago, someone preserved some stones, but the old section is in great need of repairs. Those stones can be saved!

I’m seeing townships with fairly new beautiful buildings, while the cemeteries are neglected. They say the stones are the property of the owners and not their responsibility. And yet….
Their sextons mowing have hit, run over, knocked down, grass thrown on, pushed off bases…. Hundreds of stones!

Just doing what I love until someone notices.

Hello friends.

Don’t forget. One week from Tuesday is our
WINDSOR TOWNSHIP PIONEER PRESERVATION SOCIETY GATHERING!

Our guest speaker is Dan “Hammer” Schiffer who is an accomplished pilot who has flown many vintage airplanes.
He has quite a story to tell. Don’t miss it!

Last night I was at Benton Township Cemetery with all the mosquitos. They love me more than you. Neener, neener.

I put down gravel to add a form for a new cement base for Thomas & Sarah Gilbert’s monument. I poured 3 1/2 bags of cement. I then cleaned every piece with biological cleaner.

Thomas’ father, Samuel Gilbert, who had your first Benton Twp meeting in his home, has a very broken stone. So I’ve laid it out to begin repairs. He’ll be standing and white when I’m done.

I’m a volunteer. I work in Windsor Township Cemeteries.
I pay for everything, so your donations are important.
Need a stone repaired? Send me a message.
I’m your preservation solution.
I’ll be far less than all the others.

Potterville has a nice cemetery. It just needs a lot of TLC.
TERRY’s LOVING CARE.

Finishing touches.

I’ve been working a Courter-Pray Cemetery the last few nights, finishing up the Streeter/Streater Plot.

This has been my most expensive restoration.
11 bags of concrete. 12’ of planks to build a form.
A gallon of Endurance cleaner. Half a tube of expensive epoxy.
2 stainless steel side braces. And a lot of time.

These are the tedious steps to complete this one.
That storm dropped some big branches, so I spent an hour picking up sticks that were everywhere.

Make sure you come out Tuesday evening, September 15th, 6pm, in the Lion’s Pavilion, next to the fire station, for the next gathering of the Windsor Township Pioneer Preservation Society.

I have a great program coming with special music and a guest speaker. Great stories about those who raised their families right here in Dimondale.

And there’s a Community Hymn Sing coming too!

Ok, PRESERVATION PEOPLE!

I know of 4 products to clean stone with. I’ve used them all.
I actually like Wet and Forget best as it lathers up well and turns white stones whiter and brighter faster…. As far as I have seen.

I’ve now heard of RMR-86. Haven’t tried it yet.
But this is recommended by a man who highly recommends it as he spent his career restoring our National Monuments and buildings. Like our Nation’s Capital.

Have you tried this? Just wondering your thoughts.

The WTPPS is coming soon!

The Windsor Township Pioneer Preservation Society gathering is coming up fast!

Tuesday, September 15th, at 6PM in the Lion’s Pavilion next the the Fire Station!

Wanna get involved?
I need a hostess and some snacks.
I need a reader or two to read a dramatic article.
Can you sing? Play an instrument?
We need you.

I’m also doing our 3rd Community Hymn Sing and we have a sponsor in the Village! Come join us!
