We are a full-gospel church made up of people pursuing a transforming relationship with God. Freedom Church is a 5 year old church in the heart of Dickson, TN.

Online Services: https://freedom-church-dickson-5ce76.nucleus-preview.com/sermons We are a multi-racial and multi-generational. We have nursery every Sunday and Children's Church most Sunday mornings, with the exception of one family service per month. Youth service (grades 6th - 12th grade) meets on Wednesday nights at 6:45. Men's, Women's, J.O.Y. Fellowship (50+), Young Adults (18-30) all meet for fellowship, Bible study throughout the year.

Tuesday Devotional — Be Merciful

"You must show mercy to those whose faith is wavering. Rescue others by snatching them from the flames of judgment." — Jude 22-23

Jude's instructions on contending do not stop with ourselves. Once we are built up, once we are praying in the Spirit, once we are staying in God's love, there is an outward call: show mercy.

Show mercy to the weak. To the one who is wandering. To the one who is doubting. To the one who is struggling to believe anymore. Stop judging them in your mind. Stop criticizing them.

And here is the sobering line Sunday landed on, straight from James 2: judgment will be merciless to those who have shown no mercy.

That is not easy. Being merciful to someone who has hurt you, especially repeatedly, is exactly why Scripture uses words like struggle and suffer to describe contending. It costs something. But God has been merciful to every one of us. None of us inherit eternal life apart from His mercy. How then can we withhold it from others?

Jude also says some people need more than mercy. Some need to be snatched from the flames of judgment. That takes boldness, truth spoken in love, and above all being led by the Holy Spirit so we do not push someone further away instead of drawing them in.

Sunday asked us to look around and notice how many people we know who want nothing to do with church because of something a believer did to them. That is what happens when the church stops contending.

Challenge for today: Who in your life needs mercy from you right now? Choose to extend it today, even if they have not earned it. And ask God who He may be prompting you to go after.

Contending Starts With You

"But you, dear friends, must build each other up in your most holy faith, pray in the power of the Holy Spirit, and await the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ." — Jude 20-21

Last week we looked at the call to contend for our faith. Sunday we got the practical answer to the question everybody was asking: what does that actually look like?

Here is the surprising part. Contending does not start with arguing doctrine. It does not start with defending your denomination or winning debates. It starts on the inside. It starts with you.

Jude's first instruction is to build yourself up in your most holy faith. Not a weak faith. Not a compromised faith. Not a faith built on by-laws or denominational preferences. A faith built on Jesus and His word.

And that comes with a hard truth: you are responsible for your own spiritual life. We cannot blame our spouse. We cannot blame our parents. We cannot blame our circumstances or our season. If we are wandering, if we are backsliding, if we are not growing, that is on us.

Sunday also named something many of us are living with right now. We cannot contend when we are weighed down. Not weighed down by sin necessarily, but by worry, by burden, by preoccupation with things we want to fix and cannot. Those weights keep us from moving when God says move and praying when God says pray.

Challenge for today: Ask God to show you what is weighing you down. Then hand it back to Him deliberately. You cannot contend while you are carrying what was never yours to carry.

Tuesday Devotional — You Can't Compromise and Contend

"Be holy, for I am holy." — 1 Peter 1:16

Jude warned that the danger would not come only from outside the church. It would come from within. Ungodly people would quietly worm their way in and begin teaching that God's grace allows us to live however we want. They would water down the truth. They would make what God calls immoral into something optional.

And Jude named the root of it plainly. They had denied Jesus as Lord and Master.

That is the heart of it. If Jesus is truly the master of my heart, then when He says something is holy, it is holy. When He says something is not, it is not. And if I am the only person who will not go, then I will not go.

Immorality is more than sexual sin. In the Greek it simply means anything that fails to align with God's standards, anything that fails to honor what God calls sacred. And it is everywhere now. In our language, our music, our shows, our scrolling, our billboards. If we are not deliberate, we go numb to it. And once we are numb, we stop contending altogether.

So here is the honest question from Sunday: do I compromise for the sake of entertainment? Am I allowing anything into my life that does not honor God?

Contending is not picketing or yelling at people. It is not being a bully. You can be compassionate and contend at the same time. Contending starts with how you live. Your daily choices. Your lifestyle. Your witness. Because when we compromise, we water down the gospel and weaken its power in the eyes of everyone watching us.

Challenge for today: Ask God to put His finger on one thing in your life that does not honor Him. Confess it, release it, and turn from it. That is where contending begins.

Monday Devotional — Called to Contend

"Dear friends, I had been eagerly planning to write to you about the salvation we all share. But now I find that I must write about something else, urging you to defend the faith that God has entrusted once for all time to his holy people." — Jude 3

Sunday's message came from one of the shortest letters in Scripture, and it carried an urgency that is hard to miss.

Jude sat down to write about something joyful. He wanted to celebrate the shared gift of salvation with people who had just come to know Jesus. But the Holy Spirit redirected him. Instead of encouragement, he wrote a warning. And this was only thirty or forty years after Jesus ascended. The faith already needed defending.

That word contend in the Greek means to struggle, to suffer, to be under great pressure, to fight a good fight. It is not a passive word. And it is not reserved for pastors or people in full-time ministry. It is a call to every person who belongs to Jesus.

Here is the sobering part. You would not know Jesus today if someone had not contended before you. Somebody in a previous generation was willing to struggle a little, to suffer a little, to endure hardship so that faith stayed alive in their family, their church, their generation. We are here because they did not quit.

Now it is our turn. Christianity is not automatically passed down. Over a third of countries have already lost religious freedom. The culture around us is not going to carry the gospel forward. We are.

Challenge for today: Who contended so that you could know Jesus? Thank God for them today. And then ask Him honestly: who am I contending for?
