Our dear Friend Jeanne has been spending many years in Edinburgh every Saturday with the Women in Black movement, and with us every Sunday in the silent Quaker tradition for nearly two and a half years, joining Ukrainians on Zoom. It’s remarkable how her dedication and support inspire us all.
Women in Black is an international network of women advocating for peace and justice. In Edinburgh, this group bears witness to peace every Saturday. The first group was founded by Israeli women in Jerusalem in 1988 after the start of the First Intifada. Since then, the movement has spread worldwide, with women gathering in cities globally for non-violent protests against war and violence. The vigils are often held in silence, reflecting the group’s commitment to peaceful protest and solidarity with all victims of war.
It is especially noteworthy for us that in Edinburgh, Women in Black sometimes stand in solidarity with Ukrainian protesters when their actions coincide.
We wish happiness to everyone who supports us in the quest for peace and deeply appreciate having such a faithful and wonderful Friend like Jeanne
