...What a beautiful invitation to release our anxiety and rest in the faithfulness of the one who already knows every need, burden and detail of our lies. The same God who faithfully sustains creation is faithfully sustaining you, too!

Found in Matthew chapter 5, this portion of scripture is spoken by Jesus during the Sermon on the Mount (immediately following the Beatitudes) as a part of His teaching on how Christ-followers should influence the world.

Salt and light change things. They change the flavor of things...they change the atmosphere. Be the person who changes the atmosphere of the room without demanding attention!

-Speak hope in places where cynicism has become normal.
-Make people feel seen, heard and loved.
-Use social media to add light instead of fear and outrage (let's be refreshing!).
-Bring calm instead of escalation during tense conversations.
-Be generous in ordinary ways.
-Refuse to participate in gossip.
-Create instead of consume.
-Pray for people, and show up for people.
-Share your faith.

There are SO many ways to be salt and light! But let's not allow this to remain in conversation or thought alone, let's LIVE IT OUT!

Life gets stupid-busy and crazy-loud and full of distractions, right?

To abide with Christ means to remain closely connected to Him in an ongoing daily relationship despite all the noise. The word "abide" carries the idea of staying, dwelling and resting. It's not just believing God exists, but living from a place of nearness to Him!

Abiding with Christ today can look like:
-spending time with Him in prayer and scripture
-staying aware of His presence through ordinary moments
-obeying Him out of love, not obligation
-letting His precepts shape your thoughts, words and actions
-trusting Him in times of uncertainty
-getting away to a quiet spot to hear His voice and speak with Him
-delighting in His creation with Him

And abiding produces "fruit" in our lives over time....love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control.

Abiding, at its core, means, 'I don't just want God as a part of my life, I want my whole being to be rooted within Him!"

Today we pause to remember the brave men and women who laid down their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice reminds us that freedom is costly.

We honor the courage, selflessness and legacy they left behind. We remember them together.

As we gather with family and friends today, let's mindfully pray for those who feel the weight of loss...and let's continually pray for our nation, as well!

We've heard it said our days are like a tapestry. Sometimes we can only see the backside...a portion of the messy threads jumbled together...but God sees the whole picture. One day, we will, too.

Faith says, "I know He can," and trust says, "and if He doesn't, He is still good."

Our confidence in God is not meant to rest in perfect-to-us, ideal circumstances, but in His unchanging character through all the peaks and valleys of life. Even when we Don't understand the timing and aren't given our answers to "why?", we can rest in this: the goodness of God has never failed.

"And if not.." is not a statement of hopelessness, it's a declaration that God's goodness is our bedrock no matter what comes!
