Shavuot: Hearing His Voice

Shavuot is one of the appointed times established by G-d in the Torah. In the Scriptures, it is called Shavuot (Weeks), because it comes after the counting of seven weeks from Pesach.
The Torah says: “Then you are to count from the morrow after the Shabbat… seven complete Shabbatot… until the morrow after the seventh Shabbat you are to count fifty days.” — Leviticus 23:15–16 (TLV)
By the Second Temple period, many Jewish people living among the nations spoke Greek as a common language. Because of this, the feast became known in Greek as Pentēkostē, “Fiftieth,” which is where the English word “Pentecost” comes from. In Acts 2, however, this was not a separate Christian festival, but the biblical feast of Shavuot being observed in Jerusalem.
