We're seeing the signs of summer being on the wane, sunset is now before 8:00 and we've come to the penultimate chapter in Pastor Peggy Smith's series, Standing on The Promises or Sitting on The Premises. On this third Sunday in August we find much of the region under an Extreme Heat Warning, but it's cool in the sanctuary of the little church on Spring Valley Road. We start by setting our feet on Higher Ground then we eagerly look forward to Wonderful Words of Life. On this first Sunday in August, it was overcast and muggy with occasional sprinkles of rain but in the sanctuary of the little church in Blanton, it was cool and bright and we were happy to be in the House of the Lord. Our first two hymns illuminate the way toward the next chapter in the Standing on The Promises series by Pastor Peggy Smith, Victory through Peace and Hope. A task which we have been considering for several years and reached active planning in recent months has finally come to pass, a new roof for the sanctuary of the Blanton United Methodist Church. The roof had been in place since the spring of A.D. 1991, during the tenure of Rev. William S. Brisbin. It is the hope and prayer of the congregation that the new roof will endure as long as the old, keeping the sanctuary dry when the tropical storm comes, the wind blows and the rain beats down. It's July Birthday Sunday, we gather in the Fellowship Hall on the final Sunday of each month to celebrate all who were born in July. We enjoyed a fine birthday cake with ice cream and little deli sandwiches and pulled pork sandwiches too, but we enjoyed the fellowship most of all.
