Holy Mother of Czestochowa, Thou art full of grace, goodness and mercy. I consecrate to Thee all my thoughts, words and actions–my soul and body. I beseech Thy blessings and especially prayers for my salvation. Today, I consecrate myself to Thee, Good Mother, totally–with body and soul amid joy and sufferings to obtain for myself and others Thy blessings on this earth and eternal life in Heaven. Amen.

Happy feast of St. Maximilian Kolbe!

Recently I’ve been meditating on the beauty of the priesthood and how, in a particular way through St. Max, the light of Christ shone forth in a dark and desolate place. St. Max resisted the darkness of evil and despair, and instead opened himself to be an instrument in Our Lord’s hands to share His Love and Mercy with his fellow prisoners. Please pray for all priests that they may be firmly rooted in their identity as sharers in the High Priesthood of Jesus Christ and that they may be ready to give everything for the sake of their flock.

On the following slides is the bullet point life plan that Kolbe wrote to himself before his ordination, and the list contains many things that we can apply to ourselves too.

Dear friends,
In a few days, we will celebrate the 82nd anniversary of St. Maximilian Kolbe’s sacrifice to take another man’s place in the starvation bunker. I was blessed to travel to Poland a couple of weeks ago with my family, and we visited Auschwitz. While I was there, I stood in the very place outside Block 17 where Kolbe stepped forward to take Francis Gajowniczek’s place (the plaque in the second picture is on the wall of block 17), and I also placed my hand on the wall of Kolbe’s cell in block 11 where during the final days of his life, he led the 9 other men in the bunker in joyful songs and prayers to Our Lady. As I paused there, I prayed for all of us in the MIDC community, that St. Maximilian would continue to guide us to a deeper love of the Immaculata. It was really impactful being there. Soon we will begin the novena leading up to St. Maximilian’s feast day on Aug. 14, and I hope that you will join me!
