Heart of Texas banquet 2026
"Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize." ~1 Corinthians 9:24
When we do our awards banquet, we hand out medals with a reference that we hope our quizzers will take with them into the future. 1st Corinthians 9:24 was the verse for this year's medal.
A personal favorite thing about our awards banquet is after awards have been presented, we open up the microphone for anyone to come up and say something about anything quizzing related. The testimonies that are shared are such blessings and show why this program is worth infinitely more than what anyone invests in it.
For the first time since we started this program, we had one quizzer who memorized all of the scripture portion- that is all of first and second Corinthians (!!!) This quizzer had set himself some goals this year and he achieved them. When he got up to speak, he shared how those goals became less important and he reiterated multiple times that all he wants to do is share the good news of Jesus with other people.
This year, Coach Desirae had spoken with the quizzers about her goal in coaching Bible quizzing having nothing to do with competition but everything to do with seeing all of these quizzers again in heaven someday, that they would continue steadfast in following Christ.
One of the quizzers, when he got up to speak, ended by looking at her and assuring her, he will be there. That came after he shared about recognizing that some students go to church on Sunday and act one way then act a different way at school.
This same quizzer spoke about living for Jesus every day, not just on Sunday and the spiritual growth in his life, even over the past year (it's visible to those of us who know this quizzer, too!!)
This program is SUCH a blessing with eternal rewards. It was started by people who knew nothing, really, about quizzing but only saw it's potential for the Kingdom of God.
If you have preconceived notions about Bible quizzing being all work or not much fun, I would challenge you to reconsider and prayerfully consider starting a program at your church, I have NEVER seen any Christian program bear fruit like Bible quizzing is in our little corner of the world.
