Good Evening Beloved,
The church began after the ascension of Jesus Christ. Starting with gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, the history and teachings of Christ are all properly made evident through their testimony and account of Jesus life and ministry on earth. Over the years from the day of Pentecost until now there has been so much contreversy about the true doctrine of Jesus. Even the scripture says of itself, if any have not the doctine of Christ that he does not belong to God. Educated men since the beginning have tried to water down the doctrine of the scripture, but I submit to you today that not all doctrines lead to Christ.
What is doctrine? Doctrine simply means teaching. The Doctrine of Christ is the 'teachings' of Christ. How is it that we have strayed so far of the path of right Doctrine? How is it that we have so many different doctrines and church statements of Faith. Men all over the world have left the path, the doctrine of Christ for the sake of itching ears' and personal gain. Why? Did they not truly understand who Jesus is?
Jesus said a very profound statement as he was teaching His disciples. He said "who do you say that I am?" The disciples begin to say, "some say you are the prophet, others say Elijah". Jesus said, "who do you say that I am?" Peter said "you are the Christ, the Son of the Living God". Jesus said "Flesh and blood did not reveal this to you but my Father that is in Heaven." We must first realize and understand that flesh and blood cannot bring us to a revelation from God, only the Holy Spirit can reveal who Christ is. The revelation of Christ through the Holy Spirit comes through our love for God.
Jesus said in the book of John 14, "if you love me, obey my commands and I and the Father will love you and make our abode with you and we will manifest ourself to you". What an extraordinary promise. Obedience, that is our love for God, will cause us to experience the manifest love of God. Obedience, however, does not just come through the observance of rules and regualtions. Obedience is to know God and to be known of God. The apostle Paule said in the book of Acts 24, "I do always exercise myself, to keep my conscience void of offense towards God and toward man."
Self examination is a golden strand of understanding throughout the scripture. The Psalmist said, "examine me oh God and see if there be offensive way in me". The Apostle Paul said to "examine yourself, to see whether or not you are in the faith". Preaching the gospel and staying on the right path is not only about studying and knowing the scripture. It is to be known of God. Jesus said to Peter, "flesh and blood did not reveal this to you.." Only the Holy Spirit of God can reveal Christ in us.
As born again believers we are commanded to examine ourselves through the meditation of scripture and prayer. We do not position ourselves in a place of deception, but of examination. This place of deception, is having itching ears. This is where false doctrine has come in. Men who have itching ears have drawn to themselves men who only preach the gospel for self gain. These men are not following the way, the , truth and the life. They are following evil men who do not want to be known of God, but rather want to be known of men.
Therefore, not all doctrines lead us to Christ and that is because of the condition of the heart in the man who is preaching. Paul said that a bitter well does not produce sweet water, and sweet water can not come from bitter well. An un-examined heart is the root of false doctrine. The reason why men are preaching false doctrine, is because their confession is false, their heart is not right, their conscience is not clear of offense toward God and men. Self examination through prayer and through the scripture is the only way to ensure
that we stay within the doctrine of Christ.
