PARENTS!!!
Phew! Where did summer go? For many of us parents, it came and went. Taking our kiddos back to school and our schedules right back into over drive.
I have started a new mini series with the kids using these Bible verses :
Luke 6:45 & Proverbs 18:21
Luke 6:45
“The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks" (for the sake of keeping the kids engaged, I’ve substitutes ‘evil’ with ‘bad’)
With this Bible verse, I’ll be challenging the kids to explore what comes out of theirs mouths and encouraging them to understand that what we put INTO our body (our ears and our eyes) goes directly into our heart and right out of our mouth!
What do we watch that could be bringing ‘bad’ into our hearts?
What do we listen to that could be causing us to step into misalignment with who God says we are?
Our kids had interesting answers last week. But when one of the kids said “listening to rap songs with cuss words.” I knew right away that they were understanding exactly what I was getting at.
I also challenged them to be more mindful with what they say to others. The same way we are affected by what we hear and see, so are others. What we say and do to and around our friends matters and effects them just the same.
The next part of this series will be focused on Proberbs 18:21:
“The tongue has the power of life and death”
I’ll be using a hands on approach with this one. Providing travel size tubes of toothpaste and toothpicks, each kiddo with get the opportunity to squish all the toothpaste out onto a paper plate and then be given the task of putting all the toothpaste back in with a toothpick.
Much like our words/actions, it’s always easier to say/do them than it is to take them back. When speaking to, about, or with our friends, being mindful of the impact of our words/actions is always important.
My goal is for the kids to understand that during this school year, be mindful of what comes out of their mouth.
Are you sharing Gods love or are you saying things that might hurt someone else?
Are you an example of always speaking life or do you tend to be the person who mostly struggles to put the toothpaste BACK in the tube? Regardless of where we’re at, Jesus loves us and He is there every step of the way.
As always, know that I’m praying for your families and that I care!!!
Love,
Mrs Cydney!
