The City of Columbus is preparing for the 28th Annual Community celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. The program will be held at the COMMONS Downtown and starts at 7:00 am. As usual, there is no admission fee, and we start serving a hot Free delicious buffet breakfast at 7:00 am. The Columbus
Annual MLK Day committee invites you and your family or company to attend the program on Monday, January 20th. An outstanding program is planned that concludes at 9:00 am. This is a very popular event that averages attendance of 300 people or more. The theme this year is, “All-In: It’s Time to be Uncomfortable”. The program will feature brief remarks, and community updates from our Mayor, and our BCSC Superintendent. Many city and county officials will be in attendance. This year our Keynote speaker will be Bishop Johnny Edwards, Sr. Pastor of Abundant Harvest Ministries – Columbus, and President of the Columbus/Bartholomew County Branch of the NAACP. We look forward to his inspirational and timely message. Again, this year the breakfast will be provided FREE of charge to the community and Six $1000 MLK Scholarships will be awarded to six college-bound high school graduates. Additionally, Ivy Tech Community College and IU Columbus will each award a Matching $1000 Scholarship to each recipient
to attend their respective institutions. Furthermore, recipients will each receive an additional $1500 Scholarship from the African American Foundation toward their sophomore year tuition. Of course, none of this would be possible without the generous sponsorship of our Community Business Leaders! The scholarships are awarded based on financial need, academic performance, extracurricular activities, and community involvement. Besides scholarships, these funds are used to assist community youth programs throughout the course of the year. -Rev. Fred R King, Chair - Columbus Annual MLK Day

The City of Columbus is preparing for the 27th Annual Community celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. The program will be held at the COMMONS Downtown and will be broadcast via Facebook Live. As usual, there is no admission and a hot Free delicious buffet breakfast starts at 7:00 am. The Columbus Annual MLK Day committee invites you and your company to attend the program on Monday, January 15th. An outstanding program is planned that starts at 7:30 am and concludes at 9:00 am. This is a very popular event that averages an attendance of 300 people or more. The theme this year was inspired by the King Center’s national theme which emphasizes a self-initiative of shifting the cultural climate through the practice of Kingian nonviolence. We, however, felt the shift in culture should have more to do with the self-sufficiency of being the solution to our own problems. Therefore, the theme for 2024 is “It Starts with Me: Shift the Culture, Be the Solution”. The program will feature brief remarks, and community updates from our Mayor, and our BCSC Superintendent. Many city and county officials will be in attendance. This year our Keynote speaker will be District 3 City Councilman Jerone Wood. Mr. Wood was recently elected to his second term as City Councilman in Columbus. He is also an Elementary P.E. teacher in BCSC, and High School Track coach.

Here is just 1 of more than 50 subjects that make up the Black American History Crash Course available on YouTube. Each is about 10 to 12 minutes long and they are very interesting and educational. Happy Black History Month!

Please share this info concerning a financial literacy course that "Paths To Success" and Centra Credit Union are sponsoring at the Columbus Learning Center (CLC) for our High-schoolers. This workshop will be held at 4555 Central Avenue (next door to Ivy Tech). I wish I had this course in High School.
