Shepherding Hearts in a Culture of Deception

Leadership can be a lonely place, especially in times of shaking, when those called to lead are often carrying the weight of others while needing encouragement themselves. Shepherding Hearts in a Culture of Deception was created to encourage emerging and established leaders to remain anchored in Christ, strengthened in truth, and reminded that they do not have to walk through these seasons alone.

This devotional offers a place to pause, reflect, pray, and allow God to strengthen your heart as you continue shepherding others.

CHOOSE WHAT BUILDS GOD’S HOUSE

Life constantly presents us with competing priorities. Some things are urgent, but that doesn’t necessarily make them eternal.

In Haggai, God’s people were working, planting, earning, and building, yet something was out of order. Their resources were being consumed while God’s house remained neglected.

Glory Carrier, this is a season to look beyond what demands our immediate attention and ask: Am I investing in what God considers important?

That may mean strengthening your prayer life, returning to an assignment, serving where God planted you, developing what He placed within you, or simply putting His priorities back in their proper place.

“Thus says the LORD of hosts: ‘Consider your ways!’” — Haggai 1:5 NKJV

Not everything demanding your attention deserves your investment.

Choose what builds. Choose what lasts. Choose what brings Him glory.

**RETURN TO THE WORK**

There comes a time when reflection must become **obedience**.

God told His people to consider their ways, but He did not intend for them to remain in examination. He gave them something to do: **“Go up to the mountains and bring wood and build the temple.”**

Glory Carrier, perhaps God has already shown you what needs attention. If so, you may not need another confirmation. **You may simply need to begin again.**

Pick up the assignment. Restore the discipline. Make the call. Return to prayer. Finish what He told you to finish.

**“Then Zerubbabel…with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the LORD their God.” — Haggai 1:12 NKJV**

Delayed obedience does not have to become permanent disobedience.

**You can return to the work.**

**WHEN OUR PRIORITIES BECOME MISALIGNED**

Haggai’s message wasn’t that God’s people should neglect their homes, families, or responsibilities. The issue was **priority**. They had found time for what mattered to them, while God's work remained unfinished.

That is a sobering question for every Glory Carrier: **Has something good quietly taken the place of something God said was important?**

God’s response was not simply, *“Feel bad about it.”* He told them to **consider their ways, get up, and rebuild.**

**“Thus says the LORD of hosts: ‘Consider your ways! Go up to the mountains and bring wood and build the temple, that I may take pleasure in it and be glorified,’ says the LORD.” — Haggai 1:7–8 NKJV**

There it is: **that I may be glorified.**

This season is about more than rearranging our schedules. It is about putting His presence, His purposes, and His glory back in their rightful place.

Glory Carrier, what needs to move so God can once again have first place?

RETURN TO THE WORK

There comes a time when reflection must become obedience.

God told His people to consider their ways, but He did not intend for them to remain in examination. He gave them something to do: “Go up to the mountains and bring wood and build the temple.”

Glory Carrier, perhaps God has already shown you what needs attention. If so, you may not need another confirmation. You may simply need to begin again.

Pick up the assignment. Restore the discipline. Make the call. Return to prayer. Finish what He told you to finish.

**WHAT HAVE WE ALLOWED TO LIE IN RUINS?**

In Haggai 1, God asked a confronting question. His people had returned from captivity and rebuilt their own lives, yet the house of God remained in ruins.

That speaks to us today.

Glory Carrier, sometimes what needs rebuilding is not visible to anyone else. It may be your prayer life, your intimacy with God, an assignment you stopped pursuing, or an area of obedience you quietly postponed.

The Lord’s correction was not intended to shame His people. He wanted them to recognize what they had neglected so they could rebuild it.

Is it time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, and this temple to lie in ruins?” — Haggai 1:4 NKJV

Ask the Lord today: **What have I been maintaining while something You value has been left unattended?**

Whatever He reveals, don't hide from it. His invitation is to **realign, rebuild, and return.**

ELUL | THE SIXTH HEBREW MONTH

CONSIDER YOUR WAYS

Elul opens with a striking biblical invitation. On the first day of the sixth month, hi them forward, God called them to examine what had moved out of alignment.

Glory Carrier, Elul is a good time to ask: What has God asked me to build, restore, or return to that I have allowed distraction, disappointment, or busyness to interrupt?

His correction is not rejection. It is an invitation to come closer, hear Him clearly, and realign with what matters to Him.
“Now therefore, thus says the LORD of hosts: ‘Consider your ways!’” — Haggai 1:5 NKJV

Lord, search my heart. Show me what needs my attention again, and give me grace to respond.

HE IS STILL CALLING

The greatest invitation of Sivan is not simply learning more about God.

It is drawing nearer to Him. In a world filled with uncertainty, His presence remains the safest place to stand.

Glory Carrier, we are at the close of the month of Sivan. This month was not merely about understanding the season. It was about responding to the One who governs the season.

The Lord is still calling people closer. The question is: Will we answer?

"Draw near to God and He will draw near to you."
— James 4:8 NKJV

Declare: Lord, I will draw near to you!
