Byron Ballard's workshop:
A Great and Subtle Weaving--Animism as a Political and Economic Force
So much of the interconnected global economy is dominated by capitalism and the domination language found in Genesis that is foundational to these global movements. This workshop proposes a return to animism and the incorporation of this ancient notion into the political arena as well as the economic one. How would this change these systems in the face of global climate transition? Is it even possible?
H. Byron Ballard, BA, MFA, is a native of Western NC. She is a writer, amateur folklorist with a specialty in Appalachian folk magic & healing. She tours extensively in the US & Great Britain. Her books include four on mountain folk magic. The first was Staubs and Ditchwater, and the most recent (2025) is A Feral Church. She lives in Asheville.
Jan Avende will be lecturing on "Building Relationships with the Not-Gods"
We often talk about our patron relationships with various gods and goddesses. But what about all the other weird and wonderful spirits that we share space with? In this workshop we'll talk about who those spirits are, ways to meet them and work with them in a devotional context and have an open discussion about the current ways individual participants experience them.
Rev. Jan Avende (they/them) is an Initiate and Priest of Ár nDraíocht Féin, currently serving as the ArchDruid.
