Monday’s meeting was truly something special. We had the pleasure of welcoming Elizabeth Cole from the historic Red Mill Museum Village, she brought history to life in the most fascinating way. She spoke about the great collection owned by the Mill - from agriculture and textiles to wedding dresses, hats, quilts, maps, photographs. The collections includes carpentry tools -like the belt axe used in the 1700s possibly for hunting and frontier life.
The history of the mill itself is layered and remarkable. Once known as the Black Mill, it evolved through many phases—from talc to graphite production to a wagon wheel factory, a grist mill, and even a shirt factory. It stood through fires, business scandals, reinventions, and generations of ownership. We heard stories of early settlers, Irish immigrants like Michael Mulligan and his son James, and even colorful local legends like Peg Leg, the worker whose life became part of the town’s story.
What stood out most was how deeply connected the mill is to the community—from church ties and historic conflicts to family contributions, cookbooks, artifacts, and even a bell carried by a hurricane into neighboring land. Every detail reminded us that history isn’t just in books—it lives through people, places, and shared stories.
It was an inspiring and enriching it reminded us of the beauty of preserving the past while building meaningful connections in the present.
✨ We would love for more amazing women to join us, connect, learn, and be part of this growing community. Come be a part of something special—you belong here!
