Luke 4:18 New King James Version (NKJV)
18
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,
Because He has anointed Me
To preach the gospel to the poor;
He has sent Me [a]to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty those who are [b]oppressed;
I was thinking today of the Spirit of bitterness that I had within me. When I was a young girl my best friend jumped me in the school playground and she beat me to a pulp, that incident planted a seed of bitterness in my spirit. The fact that my best friend had betrayed me in such a way caused me so much pain that I attempted to commit su***de.
Let me tell you about a seed: when the seed takes water from the soil. this triggers the root to growth to allow the seed to get more water. The root grows downward to anchor the seed.
This is what happened to me through this incident, the pain, sorrow, anger, that I felt caused to grow roots of bitterness, irritation,displeasure, dissatisfaction, discontentment,resentfulness, bad feelings, envy and jealousy, Every time someone would hurt me or do me wrong those roots became stronger and stronger.
Praise be to God He delivered me from that Spirit of bitterness. It kept lurking its head when I least expected it. It would manifest itself in the form of angry outburst. Which would make me feel so horrible after the fact? I knew that I had hurt a person’s feelings, but more importantly I had grieved the Holy Spirit.
If you are going through any of these things, God can set you free today, right now. All you have to do is ask Him. Ask him to forgive you, for hurting others and ask Him to help you forgive those that have caused you hurt and pain.
I forgave my friend for what she did to me. Today I see her and it's as if nothing had happened.
God will do it for you also.
Praise Honor be to God
