Hey guys,
God has revealed Himself in two significant ways.

1. Through Creation - there ain't no one else anywhere that speak into nothing a create the heavens and the earth. Only God has done this. (Genesis 1, John 1:1-3, Colossians 1:16, Hebrews 1:2).

2. Through the Bible - it is His revealed word to humanity so that we might have a greater understanding of who He is, who we are, and what He desires for us.

Why do you think God reveals Himself in this way?

I'll tell you what I believe about this...
-- I believe God desires to have a loving, intimate relationship with you and I.
-- I believe He created us to have a relationship with Him (As exhibited with Adam & Eve ... time in the Garden).
-- He calls out to His creation and invites all people from all walks of life to share in this relationship.
-- Unfortunately... many refuse to answer the call. Many refuse to accept this gift of love.
-- No one simply gets to have the love relationship with God because He calls...
-- No, you enter into this relationship when you answer His call...
-- You can do this by placing your faith in God's Son, Jesus Christ and following Him the rest of your earthly life.

1 John 1:1-5 reminds us...
Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well. 2 This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. 3 In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, 4 for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.

Sinful pride is not giving God the credit for who we are, what we have, and what we can do. Frank Sinatra's classic song, "I did it my way" is reflective of this attitude. Godly men must give God the credit and the glory. We have no other choice; that is God's way!

Hebrews 13:15
Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name. And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.

Men,
You need to get plugged into a Bible study fellowship with other men if you can. It will encourage you, challenge you, strengthen you, and remind you that you are not alone in the battles of this life. We need more godly men stepping up to the plate... wherever you are... if there is no group to join, then pray about and consider starting one. You, your family, your church, and your community need it.

What is a disciple?

Mark Dever defines this in his book,
“Discipling: How to Help Others Follow Jesus”:
-- “A disciple is a follower… A disciple of Jesus follows in Jesus’ steps, doing as Jesus taught and lived … Being a disciple of Christ, in other words, does not begin with something we do. It begins with something Christ did. Jesus is the Good Shepherd who laid down his life for the sheep (John 10:10). He loved the church and therefore gave himself up for her (Ephesians 5:25). He paid a debt that he didn’t owe, but that we owe, and then he united us to himself as his holy people.”

Now, this all starts with putting your faith in Jesus Christ as God’s One and Only Son, the Lord & Savior of your life.
-- If you haven’t truly done that yet, then you aren’t going to be His disciple.
a. It is one thing to say you have done this (Matthew 15:7-8)
b. The proof (or fruit) is seen in the way you live your life (John 15:5; James 2:18).

Mark 15:33-37
33 At noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon. 34 And at three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”). a
35 When some of those standing near heard this, they said, “Listen, he’s calling Elijah.”
36 Someone ran, filled a sponge with wine vinegar, put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink. “Now leave him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to take him down,” he said.
37 With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last.

In order to be a godly husband, a godly dad, a godly friend, a man must first be… a godly man.

1 Timothy 4:7-8 – ‘train yourself to be godly."

Did you know we must train ourselves to be godly like an athlete trains for an event?
1. Show up for practice (Worship service, Sunday school, Bible study, and more)
2. Go through the workouts (Praying, Bible Reading/Studying, Worship, and Serving others)
3. Apply ourselves to godliness (Live it out – James 1:22-25)

God, by His grace, will transform us into the godly men He desires.
As we do our part in the training.

Striving to be a godly man will direct your attitudes & actions in every area of life?
For example… marriage, family, work, church, finances, social interactions, struggles, anger, disappointment, addiction, persecution, and so on.

Why am I here? This is a major question that has been asked by men and women, boys and girls, for centuries.

Answering this question will be vastly different based on your acceptance of the reality of God or not. If He’s real, then the answer will be based on His existence. If He’s not real, then you have a very different answer.

The Atheistic Worldview Why I am here? Well, if God doesn't exist, that means that life must have come about through some natural, impersonal, unintelligent, and ultimately purposeless process. That means we're ultimately as purposeless as the very process which brought us into existence. Life's just an accident and so are you.
(There's your weekly "pick me up")

To answer the question of why are we here…
First and foremost … God chose to make us (starting with Adam the first human), and the Bible doesn’t give a clear, direct answer to the specific question. However, it does offer broader answers to the question.

Let me give you a few reasons…
God desires and deserves our worship
God desires our fellowship
God created mankind to manage and care for His creation
Genesis 2:15
The LORD God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it.

God created us to be dependent on Him.
Job 34:14-15
If God were to take back his spirit and withdraw his breath, all life would cease, and humanity would turn again to dust.

God created us man and woman so we could procreate other people into the world to worship and fellowship with God

God created us with the ability to choose
Genesis 2:16-17
But the LORD God warned him, “You may freely eat the fruit of every tree in the garden—except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat its fruit, you are sure to die.”
God desires that we would choose to worship and fellowship with Him, however, He knew ahead of time that there would be some who will not.
When we do choose Him over everything else, it shows the genuineness of our love devoted to Him

Some have asked, why didn’t He just make us in a way that we’d just do what He wants us to do?

Well, what if you spouse loved you because they had to?
What if your parents loved you because they had to?
What if your children loved you because they had to?
What if your friends hung out with you because they had to?
Do you get the point?

Choosing to love someone and be friends with someone shows the sincerity and genuineness of the relationship.
It’s not forced or obligation … it’s choice.
Just like you choose to love and be friends with others.

God’s desire is that we would choose Him rather than be programmed, coerced, or forced to be in relationship with Him.
The Bible makes it clear that He loved us first… by choice.

What does it take to be a man of integrity? Is it good morals, good judgment, honesty, consistency, not caring what others think about you, always remaining positive...? When we hear the word "integrity" there can be a myriad of images that come to mind. Have you ever spoken of someone's integrity? What characteristics stood out to you OR were missing that caused you to refer to "their" integrity?

When Moses' father-in-law saw all that Moses was doing in hearing the cases of the people of Israel as a judge, he suggested to Moses to appoint other men to sit as judges to help with the work of hearing all the cases. However, Jethro didn't just recommend that any man sit as a judge, but men who have integrity...

-- Moreover, look for able men from all the people, men who fear God, who are trustworthy and hate a bribe, and place such men over the people as chiefs of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties, and of tens. (Exodus 18:21)

James brings forth the truth that we ought to be people who mean what we say. Simply let your "yes" be yes and your "no" be no. No other attached words like, "I promise", or "I swear I will" should be needed... Being a man of your word models integrity to those around you.

-- But above all, my brothers, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by any other oath, but let your “yes” be yes and your “no” be no, so that you may not fall under condemnation. (James 5:12)

In Psalm 15, we see a great model to follow when speaking of integrity. I pray you will read this Psalm and then pray to God to help guide you on the path of growing into a man of integrity.

Psalm 15:1-5
O LORD, who shall sojourn in your tent? Who shall dwell on your holy hill? He who walks blamelessly and does what is right and speaks truth in his heart; who does not slander with his tongue and does no evil to his neighbor, nor takes up a reproach against his friend; in whose eyes a vile person is despised, but who honors those who fear the LORD; who swears to his own hurt and does not change; who does not put out his money at interest and does not take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things shall never be moved.
