A LONG POST FOR PARENTS
Hello Parents!
Here is a quick run down of what our first performance week will look like and our expectations for the students.
Rehearsals:
Monday 3:30-6:15ish
Tuesday 3:30-6:15ish
We have told the kids that if they are ready to go by 3:30 in costume and makeup we will have no problem being done by 6:15. We have also communicated that it is critical that we have a full run through on both days so if they are late getting ready we may run late with the rehearsal.
Wednesday. Chapel performance. Arrive at school at 7:00AM. Curtain call rehearsal till 4:00
Thursday, Friday, Saturday. Performances.
Dinner is provided for the students on Thursday and Friday. Send a fed child to school on Saturday. Students are expected to stay after school on performance nights and work on homework until 4:30 when we eat dinner as a cast and then begin to get ready. This cuts out travel time to maximize homework time and ensures no one is stuck in traffic trying to get to school on a performance date. You are of course welcome to pick your child up and have them back to the school by 4:30. Please communicate on the day of to Kaleb if you will be picking up your student so the theatre staff is aware that your child is off campus in the event of an emergency.
Additionally, some students request permission to leave after school to grab coffee before settling down to study. If you are comfortable with your child making that excursion please communicate to Kaleb that they have your permission to do so. We will be communicating to them that they are required to check out and check in with us.
Our performances begin at 7:00 and we anticipate being done around 9:30/9:45 each night. Plan on being at the school around then to pick up your child if it is an evening that you have not purchased tickets. We certainly encourage you to see the show more than once! Every night is different and a new experience, the beauty of live theatre. And we definitely encourage you to make sure that there is some family or family friends there each night to specifically see your child. It’s rather discouraging to be the one kid who didn’t have someone special coming to see them on any given night.
Last but not least, thank you for your continued efforts to encourage the kids to get good sleep, eat well, and be off their electronics at a decent hour. This is a very critical time to maintain good emotional, spiritual, and physical health and they need all the assistance they can receive from the adults in their lives to maintain a balance. As many a DCS stage veteran will tell you, it is really rough to perform when you have the flu. We would appreciate your continued prayer for the show for health in all areas, good audiences, and great memories as we come down to the last stretch.
You will receive an additional update next week about our last performance week but for now if you have any questions or concerns please reach out to Kaleb!
Thank you all, it is going to be a great show!
