Chicago Area Nonviolent Communication

Chicago Area Nonviolent Communication We are dedicated to sharing the skills and consciousness of Nonviolent Communication (NVC) in the Chicago area.

We are a group of CNVC Certified Trainers and other experienced trainers. This page is for sharing events that are also posted on our Meetup Group, as well as media and links that we find to be aligned with the the spirit of our work. About NVC:

Nonviolent Communication (NVC), also known as Compassionate Communication, was developed by Marshall Rosenberg. It strengthens our ability to understand

and respond compassionately to others and to ourselves. It guides us to reframe how we express ourselves and hear others by focusing our consciousness on what we are observing, feeling, needing, and requesting. By practicing NVC we can hear our own needs and those of others with a depth of understanding that gives us the ability to transcend conflict. When we focus on needs and values, rather than diagnosing and judging, the world looks different and becomes different, leading to a greater sense of choice and new possibilities for how things could be. Check out Family HEART Camp in southern Indiana, August 4-10!

Steep yourself (solo is great), family and friends into a lived NVC experience. Join 10+ yr. veterans of Family Heart Camp for fun and learning. Our structure inspires all campers to lead with their interests — even the youngest campers are inspired to make offerings such as geo-hunting walks replete with optional mud fights while an older kid may organize high intensity sports games or create a crafts session…

There is daily formal NVC programming with trained and certified NVC folks typically attended by adults (though all ages are generally invited) which includes empathy, mediation, NVC somatic learning games and some didactic learning. Kids learn by example and we have seen profound shifts in families as the adults make transformational incremental changes. There is a NVC led teen gathering at night.

Entering their sixth year in 2019, FHC Ohioana returns to Lutheran Hills Camp & Conference Center in southern Indiana. This venue features a variety of accommodations, miles of hiking trails, a swimming pool, boating on the lake, a Gaga Pit, lots of playing fields and organic food for every meal.

*Workshop Announcement!*

“When you understand the roots of anger in yourself and in the other, your mind will enjoy true peace, joy, and lightness. You become the doctor who heals himself and heals the other. When you feel hurt but do not hurt the other, you are truly victorious. Your practice and your victory benefit both of you.” -- Tich Naht Hanh
