The headlines are starting to fade, but for families in Nepal the reality is still the same.

People are still standing outside, waiting for news of someone they love. Others are sleeping outside with no power, no pillow, no safety.

One of our local leaders, Narbu, met with leaders in the affected area. Listening. Praying. And out of all that listening, a plan to support these leaders and their families is slowly coming together:

Solar lights, so someone's phone doesn't go dark right when they need to reach a rescue team. Tents, for families with nowhere else to lay their heads. Clothing. Fuel for generators. A way to safely reach the villages still cut off from everyone.

A thoughtful, careful plan is being developed by Narbu and his team — people who already know these families by name. You can stand with these families through prayer and through a generous gift toward these efforts. Every bit counts.

Over the weekend, we connected with our local leaders in Nepal.
Just two days after the devastating landslides & floods, one of our leaders traveled into one of the hardest-hit areas, to bring some relief items and to be present with people in their grief.

He met families who had been waiting outside army barracks for hours, watching helicopters come and go, hoping for news of missing loved ones. He sat with local pastors who were carrying the weight of their communities while grieving themselves.

People need solar panels, generators, feminine products, basic necessities AND they need to know they are not alone.

So he is doing what local leaders do so faithfully—going to people in their hardest moments. Sitting with them. Praying with them. Listening to their stories. Reminding them that they are seen, loved, and not forgotten.

A 73 year old blind woman in a small village in South Asia asked one of our Mobile Messengers a question that stopped him in his tracks: "Who is Jesus?"

He sat with her and shared the Gospel and his experience of Jesus. She listened carefully and asked him to come back and teach her more. She was able to ask the question because he was a faithful presence in the community.

This past month alone in this same country, nearly 2,000 people heard the Gospel. Four new fellowships took root in communities that didn't have one before. And 84+ kids are showing up to an after-school program not just for homework help, but to hear about the God who knows their name.

We're now preparing to send out more Mobile Messengers this year. Every one of them needs a bike, training, and a community willing to have them.

In this case, Hope Made Visible is a blind 73-year-old woman asking about Jesus and someone showing up to answer.

We want to tell you what's been happening in Eastern Nepal.

It's a hard place for a church to take root. These are remote mountain villages, hours from the nearest road, where choosing to follow Jesus can mean losing your family's approval. Not the kind of place where change comes easily, or fast.

And yet. This season, a group of believers were baptized, many of them the first in their families to follow Jesus. One woman among them watched her neighbors come to faith for years before she was ready to take that step herself. This spring, she did.

Local churches in the region continue to grow too, led by believers who grew up in these communities and know exactly how to reach their neighbors. This happened because Christ's love reached people who'd been overlooked for a long time through brave Mobile Messengers who take the journey and because partners like you made it possible for local leaders to keep showing up through generosity and prayer.

Last month, eight pastors serving in Uganda's refugee camps got motorcycles.

That might sound small. But here's what it actually means: roads no car can handle. The ability to reach a village, serve the people there, and still get home to your own family by nightfall.

Our regional leader flew in to hand over the keys himself. And something happened that he didn't expect — people showed up who had no connection to Mobile Messengers, who'd never heard of Open Eyes. Just neighbors who heard there was a celebration and came to see what it was about. A few of them asked how they could get involved too.

That's what happens when hope is visible. People notice. They want in.

We planned to provide food for 340 refugee families.

Instead, 449 families received food.

Not because we found more funding.

Because local leaders refused to let families go hungry.

Just before the food distribution, Ebola cases were reported near the refugee settlement. The team originally scheduled to help could no longer participate. It would have been easy to postpone the distribution.

Instead, our Ugandan leaders stepped in.

They traveled to nearby villages to find additional supplies, purchased maize and beans, and stretched every dollar as far as possible so more families could receive food.

Many of the people they served had recently fled Sudan and South Sudan, arriving with little more than the clothes they were wearing. No food. No safety net. Just the hope of finding refuge.

When someone has no idea where their next meal will come from, it's hard to hear anything else.

But when local believers meet those urgent needs with compassion, they demonstrate the love of Christ in a tangible way. Those acts of care often open the door to conversations about the hope of the Gospel with people who might never have been willing to listen before.

By the time the distribution was complete:
• 449 refugee families had received food.
• 5,265 people were fed.
• 124.5 metric tons of maize and 28.59 metric tons of beans had been distributed.

This is why we invest in local leaders.

They don't just respond quickly when crisis comes. They build relationships, serve with compassion, and share the hope of Jesus in places where it is needed most.

We're incredibly grateful for the faithfulness of our Ugandan team.

We got an update recently from one of our partner church councils in Nepal, and it's the kind of thing that makes you want to stop and just say thank you to God.

Their theme for this season has been John 15:5 — abiding in Christ, bearing fruit together. That's exactly what's been happening. Through hard terrain and even harder seasons, our Mobile Messengers have kept showing up in remote communities — sharing the Gospel, praying with the sick, discipling new believers, and strengthening local churches that are often the only lifeline their community has.

None of this happens without people like you. Thank you for being part of it. Truly.
