The passing of Kobe Bryant - and the subesquent reactions - really hit me last night. Let me explain, but before I do, let me say Kobe's passing is tragic (along with the other 8 that died in the accident) and I can't imagine the pain and sadness his wife and children are going through (and the families of the others who passed).
Now, to what really has hit me. Imagine if we worshipped God and Jesus the way people are worshipping Kobe (a little g god/idol). I've been a sports fan my entire life, so I am not anti-sports or anti-athlete.
But I just wonder....what would our country be like if we worshipped God and Jesus the way we worship the things of this world? If the sacrifice of Jesus meant more than the sneakers we wear or the car we drive or the size of our house or the athlete we idolize....
Kobe's death is sad to be sure.
I'm afraid our priorities are even sadder.

Funny (and not in the "ha ha" way) how our modern "progressive" culture has taken the word 'submit' from the good and humble word that it is in the Bible, and turned into something deviant and demeaning and degrading. Jesus, the Son, submitted to God, THE Father. That was a good and humble thing to do. Likewise, to be a man and a servant of God, we must submit to God as well. It is the first and most important thing a man must do. And it is true that it is not always easy - the things of this world are always working to distract us from what is right and good. Today, let us all begin anew, in our commitment to submit to God, the same way that Jesus did.
