Isaiah 58:1–9

Due to inclement weather, our in-person services are canceled today, but God’s presence and His call on our lives remain as strong as ever.

In Isaiah 58:1–9, God reminds His people that true worship goes beyond religious routine. He calls us to live lives marked by compassion, justice, humility, and care for those in need. Real fasting — real devotion — is seen in how we love, serve, forgive, and show mercy.

Even while we are safely at home, this passage challenges us to examine our hearts. Are we seeking God sincerely? Are we lifting burdens, speaking kindness, and extending grace? Are we being the hands and feet of Jesus to those around us?

God promises that when we live this way, “your light shall break forth like the morning… and the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard.” What a powerful promise! Even in uncertain and inconvenient moments, God is working, guiding, protecting, and shining through us.

Today, let’s turn this unexpected pause into a sacred moment. Spend time in prayer. Reach out to someone who may need encouragement. Reflect on how you can be a blessing this week.

Stay safe, stay warm, and stay rooted in His love. We look forward to worshiping together soon.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your Word that speaks life, truth, and direction into our hearts. Help us to live out the message of Isaiah 58 — to walk in humility, show compassion, seek justice, and love others as You have loved us.
Search our hearts, Lord, and align our desires with Yours. Teach us to be a light in dark places, to lift heavy burdens, and to extend grace to everyone we encounter. May our lives reflect true worship that honors You. In Jesus name. Amen.

While the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks battle it out on the football field on Super Bowl Sunday, we will be battling hunger with our own "Souper Bowl" Sunday at Pleasant Grove. Just bring cans of soup or other canned food to worship and let's fill our grocery cart on Sunday, February 8 to go to Nourish Up. We are all on this team and we can win this battle!

From Darkness to Dawn
Matthew 4:13–17

Jesus begins His public ministry not in a palace, but in Galilee—a place Scripture describes as living in darkness. And that’s the point. “The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light.” Jesus deliberately steps into overlooked places to show us who God is.

Before miracles. Before crowds. Before the cross.
Jesus starts with a message: “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.”

Repentance isn’t about shame—it’s about turning toward the light. It’s choosing a new direction because hope is now within reach. Where things felt dim, God is present. Where you felt forgotten, God is working.

If Jesus can bring light to Galilee, He can bring light to your story too. No place is too dark. No heart too far. The Kingdom is closer than you think.

Prayer:
Lord, help me turn toward Your light today. Let Your kingdom shape my thoughts, choices, and hope. Amen.

Due to the impending inclement weather and the concern for the safety of our congregation, church services for Sunday, January 25, are canceled. This difficult decision is made out of care for one another, especially the most vulnerable among us. Check here after 9 am on Sunday, January 25 for a devotion for the day. We encourage everyone to stay home, stay safe, and avoid unnecessary travel. Though we may not gather in person, we remain connected through prayer and God's abiding grace. We know we are held together by in Christ and we look forward to gathering together in person again next week.
