ational. The prayer boxes I create have been used in many different ways, but here is my vision and utilization:
Sometimes I have an issue which weighs heavily on my heart. I pray about it. I seek counsel about it. Sometimes, I continue to worry about and “chew” on it to no avail when “letting go and letting God” seems easier said than done. Enter the prayer box. I will write the concern - health, job, loved one, fear, hope - on a sticky and place it prayerfully into the box. When my mind wanders back in worry about the issue, I remind myself that I’ve given this over to God. It is a challenge, but any discipline is. Periodically I return to my prayer box to review its contents. Herein lies the growth! Sometimes I read a note and think: “What were you thinking?” or “Whew, so glad God didn’t grant that one.” Sometimes I’m overwhelmed by the minuteness of the request and the magnitude of God’s response. More often than not, I end these review sessions in a new posture of prayer and praise. I then place those stickies on my mirror or portion of my wall as a visual reminder that God DOES answers prayers, even if the answer is not what I want or expect. Over time I’ve seen my prayers becoming less “me-centric” (but I’m not at zero, so I’m still working!) which is why I can attest boldly that prayer doesn’t just change things, prayer changes YOU!
