CEDE SPORTS hosted the Gospel-Centered Culture that Leads to Ministry Breakthrough webinar on Thursday, Aug. 13. Trevor Jackson of First Woodway Baptist Church in Waco, Texas, discussed integrating Scripture into sports ministry through Gospel Centricity.

Jackson discussed one challenge in sports ministry: creating devotionals that connect with the activity or sport at hand.

Gospel Centricity offers a way to unite both spaces into one cohesive unit so everything stays connected. At CEDE SPORTS, we call these SLT Integrated Devotionals.

Taking a look back at 30 years of CEDE SPORTS 👀

In 2011, the JGR Chaplains Team continued to expand, with Jon Wehner and Hudson Belk joining. As more chaplains built relationships with JGR mechanics, engineers and front-office employees, large groups began to grow.

Small groups continued to grow and deepen, expanding to more than 20.

Taking a look back at 30 years of CEDE SPORTS 👀

Along with The Gathering, CEDE SPORTS also hosted regional SOLD (Sports Outreach Leadership Development) Meetings, primarily in cities in the Southeast.

These half-day SOLD meetings furthered CEDE SPORTS’ desire to coach, connect, and resource local church sports ministries and they were open to everyone.

This isn't just a merger—it's a major step that accelerates our vision. CEDE SPORTS will become a core division of Leadership International, creating new opportunities to equip leaders and transform communities worldwide.

CEDE SPORTS hosted the Gospel-Centered Culture that Leads to Ministry Breakthrough webinar on Thursday, Aug. 13. Javier Sola, sports pastor of Discovery Church in Orlando, Fla., shared how a connection with CEDE SPORTS President Bob Schindler led him into sports ministry.

At first, Sola viewed sports as just a means to an end. As he dove deeper into Gospel-Centered culture, his mindset shifted. Schindler showed Sola that sports isn't just a secular entity, but a spiritual one that needs the Gospel infused into it.

Reflect on your own sports ministry today. Stop viewing sports as a means to an end and start infusing the Gospel into every facet.

Taking a look back at 30 years of CEDE SPORTS 👀

While international growth was underway, significant expansion was also occurring in North America. This expansion was fueled by the establishment of the CSO Network in 2009, a network for coaching, connecting and resourcing churches engaged in sports ministry.

With the formation of the CSO Network, CEDE SPORTS started hosting The Gathering, an annual, multi-day meeting that brought CSO Network partners together to coach, connect and resource one another.

The Gathering was designed specifically for CSO Network partners to further coach, connect and resource those partners attending.

Taking a look back at 30 years of CEDE SPORTS 👀

Building on its work in Africa, CEDE SPORTS expanded its impact in its second decade by taking two trips to Asia in partnership with WorldServe.

The first Asia trip took the CEDE SPORTS team to the Philippines, Vietnam, China and Thailand, where they trained church leaders and potential sports ministers in the Foundations material.

The trip also included attending a sports ministry conference in Thailand, where CEDE SPORTS trained over 100 church leaders from around the globe.

Taking a look back at 30 years of CEDE SPORTS 👀

The second Africa trip took CEDE SPORTS to Ghana, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Kenya. In preparation for this trip, CEDE SPORTS formalized its training into a course titled “Foundations - starting a sports ministry” - for church leaders and potential sports ministers. CEDE SPORTS Founder & CEO Bob Dyar and President Bob Schindler co-led these training sessions in each country.

Taking a look back at 30 years of CEDE SPORTS 👀

The first trip CEDE SPORTS took to Africa included visits to Malawi, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Kenya and Ethiopia, where CEDE SPORTS partnered with Leadership International to train church leaders. CEDE SPORTS Founder & CEO Bob Dyar was joined by the Desotos of Charlotte, NC, and Larry Warren of Leadership International.
