CEDE SPORTS hosted the Sports, Recreation and Fitness after the Fall webinar on Thursday, May 7. Guest panelist Trevor Jackson from First Woodway Baptist Church in Waco, TX, discussed how God redeems sports.

As vessels for God’s Kingdom, the primary role of a sports minister is to pray. From prayer flows the tasks of shepherding others, and thus serving as an agent of God’s redemptive purposes in sport.

Today, take intentional time to pray and ask God to reveal His purposes for sports, recreation and fitness. Seek guidance on how you can faithfully participate in this work, so together we restore SR&F to its original purpose.

Redemptive sport seeks the Lord and allows God to form us. As we pray and play, God is stepping in to mold our character to be more like Jesus.

Commit today to put God at the center of your fitness, play and competition to experience the human flourishing that comes from transforming your sport into a space for spiritual growth.

CEDE SPORTS hosted the Sports, Recreation and Fitness (SR&F) after the Fall webinar on Thursday, May 7. Panelist and CEDE SPORTS Regional Coordinator M.L. Woodruff discussed how broken SR&F really is and how, through striving, we struggle to see God’s presence within it.

Building off the distorted view of competition, Woodruff said that when he first started his ministry, he had a lack of understanding of God’s purpose for sports. He saw it as something God did not really care about, a view shared by many.

In his striving to make disciples, Woodruff trusted in himself rather than God. It’s time to change our mindset: let's stop trusting in ourselves and start anchoring our sports ministry in God's purpose.

CEDE SPORTS hosted the Sports, Recreation and Fitness after the Fall webinar on Thursday, May 7. Guest panelist Trevor Jackson from First Woodway Baptist Church in Waco, TX, examined the distorted view of competition that can be present within sports ministry.

The distorted view of competition can begin with a mindset of striving to dominate an opponent. When this mindset sets in, winning can become the main objective rather than loving one’s neighbor.

The redemption of SR&F helps to combat this ideology by pushing us to come alongside our Christian brothers and sisters to reach our full potential. Join us in redeeming sports ministry by shifting our focus from defeating rivals to developing each other for God's glory.

CEDE SPORTS hosted the Sports, Recreation and Fitness after the Fall webinar on Thursday, May 7. Guest panelist Trevor Jackson from First Woodway Baptist Church in Waco, TX, believes we must first define the work before exploring sports ministry.

The redemption of sports, recreation and fitness is the work of God. We have the privilege of playing a part in His greater plan. As 2 Corinthians 5:17-21 states, God initiated this work while we are considered ministers of reconciliation.

Let us step onto the field with renewed purpose as coaches and coordinators committed to being ministers of reconciliation. Start today by intentionally seeking ways to bring healing and restoration to the sports community, inviting others to join in God's work of redemption.

CEDE SPORTS hosted the Sports, Recreation and Fitness after the Fall webinar on Thursday, May 7, via Zoom. Panelists M.L. Woodruff and Trevor Jackson discussed God’s design for SR&F after the Fall and how sports ministers can redeem these broken facets.

Building on the panel's discussion, we see that God created SR&F in the Garden of Eden, where competition was worship. After the fall, sin changed this perfect design. Now we ask: how is it broken, and what can we do to restore it?

Let us boldly step onto the field of play not to chase temporary glory, but to redeem the culture of sports by transforming competition back into an act of worship.

What does Genesis 3 have to do with sports?

The Fall didn’t just affect our spiritual lives; it disrupted every part of God’s design, including sports, recreation and fitness.

In many church contexts, sports ministries reflect that same brokenness. But what if sports could actually be used to restore what was lost?

Designed for local church sports ministers, this session will help you better understand God’s purpose for sports and how they can be used to restore His original design.

Recreation is doing activities with little or no competitive element, done to create something new. We all enjoy recreational sports, but they are also a form of worship.

In our latest webinar, CEDE SPORTS President Bob Schindler answered the question of how the fall in Genesis 3 impacted God’s design for recreation.

In the garden, recreational activities such as hiking, cycling and fishing would have been done with a reverence for God’s creation. The focus on the sport would fade and be redirected into gratitude for what our Creator has done for us.

A question we can ask ourselves today is, in light of the fall, how can we intentionally use our recreational activities not just for enjoyment, but to restore our focus on God and reflect His original design?

Recreation is doing activities with little or no competitive element, aimed at creating something new. We all enjoy recreational sports, but they are also a form of worship.

“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” - 1 Corinthians 10:31

We exercise daily, whether it's a brisk walk or lifting weights. We were made to be active. Did you know exercise can glorify God?

Asa Björk, health and fitness pastor at Kungsporten Church in Sweden, said, when our bodies are healthy, we're better able to glorify God. This glorification flows from gratitude for how God made our bodies to do amazing things.

Exercise isn’t just about physical strength; it’s a form of stewardship. Move your body today with gratitude, and let your strength reflect the glory of the One who gave it to you.

How can your workout today honor God?
