Looking back at my middle-high school years, I was in such a trap with social media.
Recently, I’ve been quite MIA on social medias like Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, etc. This was media before that I spent hours a day, on each of these. Literally I felt if I didn’t reply to that one persons snap, didn’t comment on someone’s new post, didn’t like that new TikTok posted, it would determine my place in my little society, which sounds so silly now, yet I know it’s so true for so many young girls, and young people in general.
We get so consumed by fighting for our place in this society, we forget our purpose of being here in the first place.
If you aren’t careful, you’ll find yourself looking for comfort in social media, and this is NOT the answer at all.
I know from personal experience, I’ve always tried to live up to the standard where I might be finally “cool” enough to measure up to some of the people I THOUGHT I looked up to, because maybe they were beautiful, or they seemed so happy, or so confident, but in reality that’s not always the truth! We can’t look to social media for comfort or any type of affirmation, because social media isn’t real.
Wanna know what’s real? God. His love for you surpasses any level of comfort you can get in this world. Affirming yourself in Christ, and in His word, will make you so much happier as a person, because you’ll learn to love yourself again. You’ll learn to find yourself in Christ, and eventually your social platform, your rank in society, it won’t matter.
All I want to do is reflect Christ. I pray I can be an image of him. A reflection of his love. An example to others, that shows Christ is the answer to true happiness, true love, true identity.
