Please hold in your prayers all of those sitting for the General Ordination Examination this week and all of those evaluating the answers in the weeks to come:

God, you have given me every good and perfect gift, and you are generous without finding fault.
Help me to stay calm as I answer GOE questions and while I await the results. Stay with me, and help me to know the wisdom
that comes from heaven, through Jesus Christ your Son. Amen.

Dear personal friend and longtime GBEC friend and former chair Len Johnson died Tuesday at his home in California and we will miss him deeply.

We are very sad to learn that our colleague and friend Len Johnson died on September 26. Len was a specialist in Late Medieval and 16th-century literature. Below is an obituary prepared by Len's close friend, the Rev. Thaddeus Bennett.

We are grateful to Saint Stephen’s Episcopal Church for our Charleston, SC address.

St. Stephen's, founded in 1822 as a racially integrated congregation, was the first Episcopal church in the United States to offer free pews (other Episcopal churches either sold or leased them), and is a contributing property to the Charleston Historic District. The crooked cross on top of the church - which Hurricane Hugo blew askew but not down - represents Saint Stephen’s history and mission of inclusivity and radical welcome and symbolizes that amid the gales of the world the people of Saint Stephen’s stand strong with love for all.
