I haven’t posted on here in years but I thought I would today……

First and foremost, thank you to everyone for all their love and support through out our lives as we lived and served in Haiti at GLA. It was a honor and a privilege. The last 10 months have been difficult, strange, good, sad, happy and hard. I will be shutting down this FB page in a few days. Please stay in touch with me via my personal page. I will be doing a occasional newsletter. If you would like on the mailing list, please let me know. Our journey isn’t over, it is changing direction.( if only I knew which direction that was. Lol) God’s got us and I’m leaning on my FAITH.

Never forget. 9-11-01

“Time is passing. Yet, for the United States of America, there will be no forgetting September the 11th. We will remember every rescuer who died in honor. We will remember every family that lives in grief. We will remember the fire and ash, the last phone calls, the funerals of the children.” —former President George W. Bush

We need your help! Baby J joined us at GLA in February and has overcome hurdle after hurdle! He was born weighing just 2 Lbs., but this was not going to stop him. Little J suffered from NEC (a condition which has claimed the life of many babies here in Haiti) but he fully recovered, by the grace of God. He later developed pneumonia and once again began the fight for his life. He responded well to treatment and has remained well since then. Baby J has been completely oxygen dependent for a few months now and we need to perform some diagnostic tests (ECHO and X-Ray) to see how we can get him breathing well enough to go home with his Mom and Dad. ⁣

Would you consider making a donation so we can help Baby J receive these tests and any treatment he may require afterwards?

Just over a week ago a one month old baby girl joined us in our NICU here in Haiti, weighing less than a newborn baby. ⁣

Her cleft lip had prevented her from breastfeeding and her family could not afford to buy formula. With an intention to provide the best care they could for her, her family kept her alive on cereal. This caused her body to enter a phase of dehydration and malnutrition as her fragile stomach was unable to absorb the nutrients. ⁣

Her mother noticed that her daughter wasn’t doing well and she took her to a clinic to find help. They called Hero Ambulance service and she arrived to us later that afternoon. ⁣

Her blood levels were dangerously low and after assessment it was clear this baby girl wouldn’t have lived much longer without help. She was having heart arrhythmias and respiratory issues, alongside periods of delirium and decreased consciousness. ⁣
She was hydrated with intravenous fluids but her veins were so fragile and it took a lot of effort to keep her stable. ⁣

We treated her with intravenous potassium, which can be challenging and risky given the conditions we work under here in Haiti. The first four days were slow and scary in our NICU. She was showing signs that she was improving, but her condition remained unstable and we knew she was at risk of sudden death. ⁣

On Saturday morning it was all a completely different story!! ⁣

Baby R’s blood levels had increased to a normal level, she was taking milk feeds without any complications and she was bright and alert! She has gained just under a pound in the past week and she is a happy and thriving baby girl. Although we know the outcome is very different for many babies here in Haiti, we are praising God for His sovereignty and for giving this baby girl life. ⁣

We admire the bravery of parents in Haiti who know and love their children and go to extreme lengths to fight for healthcare for their babies. ⁣

We admire the many children here who overcome more in their first few years of life than many of us will encounter in a lifetime. ⁣

We praise our awesome God for His presence and love here in Haiti and for what He is doing in this country.
