SUMMER SERIES DISCLAIMER
Hey parents!! This Wednesday is our first night back!! I have missed your students very much and can't wait to get back into the swing of things. A summer calendar will be released soon!
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
Our sermon series for July is called summer fling, and it is a dating and relationships series.
What you should be aware of: This series is going to be an honest and somewhat unfiltered one. We will use correct terminology for s*x, po*******hy, and lust. We will be addressing big and important topics and I do not take that lightly.
Here are our focuses:
1. Why are we dating? What is the purpose of dating, and should we be doing it? (Dating is something that is done to discern if a relationship could lead to marriage. If you aren't dating for marriage why are you dating?) Unequally yolked, and God first will also be discussed.
2. Lust, po*******hy and kissing. Does the Bible talk about it, and is it that big of a deal? (Technically the Bible doesn't address po*******hy at all. What it does talk about is lust, and what we think about... Whatever is pure... It doesn't talk about kissing either, but it does say that if your hand is causing you to sin then cut it off. Kissing, can very easily go further. Where are your boundaries?)
Why this series is so important:
I can't emphasize this enough. YOUR KIDS KNOW MORE THAN YOU THINK. Speaking from both what I overhear, and my own childhood. I was VERY sheltered. I didn't have friends outside church, I was homeschooled, and there was a filter on my Internet access... I still knew a LOT more that my parents thought I did. There are ways around every internet blocker. There are discussions that happen with people you wouldn't expect, in places you wouldn't expect.
If we don't talk about the hard topics in church then the kids seek the answers from all the wrong places. Then they keep their struggles secret because if no one else is talking about it they won't either. This is not to expose your children to things they have never heard of, it is to give them a Christian perspective on things they are already hearing about or will be hearing about very soon.
Since we will be talking about such big topics I am asking for a parental signature alongside the names of students you are allowing to attend.
