What’s the Purpose of a Women’s Daily Devotional?

A daily devotional is a time that you devote each day to intentionally cultivate your relationship with the Lord. The purpose of these daily devotionals is to fix our minds and heart in heavenly places. A women’s daily devotion is one geared towards helping women apply the scriptures to their lives. Popular topics include growing in faith, marriage, motherhood, and serving others.
As His daughters, we want to live each day for His purposes and His glory. Time we spend in His presence gives us the strength we need to walk in His ways.

How to Do a Daily Devotional

While there are lots of different ways daily devotions can be done, they commonly include a time of Bible study, application, and prayer. There is no perfect or ‘right’ amount of time you should spend doing your daily devotions. The point is that you make a meaningful connection with the Lord each day.

Daily Prayer Devotional

Spending time in prayer is an important part of your devotional time. It’s good to have a strategic prayer plan. What are the things that you want to pray for daily? What are some scriptures that you can pray over those specific areas? Get a prayer journal and write them down. I’ve even found it helpful to write out specific prayers that I want to pray for consistently.

Daily Scripture Devotional
Reading some daily Bible verses, as I said above, is a critical component to your daily devotional time. Again, I’ve found it helpful to have a plan! Find a good Bible study guide, reading plan, or devotional book to help guide you through your time in the Word.

Life Application
After spending some time in the Word, we need to prayerfully consider how the Lord would have us apply His truth to our lives. This step is so often overlooked. We can study and know God’s Word, but if we are not allowing it to change our lives, we are merely hearers and not doers. We need to allow the Holy Spirit to search our hearts, reveal areas of sin and disobedience, and turn towards godliness and righteousness. Especially when it’s hard to do so.

What Is A Good Daily Devotion for Women?
There are many daily devotional resources out there. Here are a few tried and true books, apps, podcasts, and online devotions for you to consider.

Women’s Daily Devotional Apps

Devotional apps are becoming increasingly popular. They are practical, accessible, and a lot of them are completely free!

YouVersion Bible
YouVersion Bible App is a great resource for all women. It has a variety of different reading plans and devotions written by many authors. You can find daily devotions for anxiety, peace, motherhood, marriage, leadership, and many other popular topics.

First 5
First 5 is an app created by Proverbs 31 Ministries and designed to help you give your first 5 minutes of each day to the Lord and His Word. You can choose different reading plans, join a group, and connect with others. This is a great way to do a short daily devotional and give the Lord the first-fruits of today.

Daily Devotional Books for Women
Some women love apps, and others prefer to have a physical book. I go back and forth. The apps are great and practical, but there’s nothing like holding a great book in your hand and taking notes as you do your devotions, an actual book may be the better option for you. Here are a few women’s devotional books and resources.

Lifeway Devotional

Lifeway has a great selection of daily devotional books that have a wide range of topics from many different authors. and you can get get the same books on Amazon usually at a cheaper price.

More Daily Devotional Books
Beth Moore- Breaking Free
Stormie Omartin- Lord, I want to be made whole
Priscilla Shirer- The Armor of God
And many others...

You can also get these on kindle.

I hope this inspires you to dip in your word and grow you relationship with our heavenly Father

PRAYER CALL

Mrs. Barbara McCray, age 83 has been missing since this weekend. She has Dementia. Her family is worried sick. The polk county police and surrounding county agencies are on day 3 of a massive manhunt. With all there efforts, we need Gods intervention to find Mrs. Barbara. I am asking for fellow Christians to join me at 5pm for a prayer of one mind and one accord on behalf of Mrs. Barbara McCray. Lets pray that the searchers find her, or they get a call that someone has really seen her.

When 2 or 3 are gathered in his name, he is in the mist. The number "5" is the number of grace, and by God's amazing grace this family will get some answers.

Who will join me at 5pm on behalf of Mrs. Barbara McCray and her family?

We serve a mighty God

Devotion today by a Christian Therapist named Shannon of Southlake Christian counseling

WHEN A CHRISTIAN MEETS A NARCISSIST PSYCHOPATH by Shannon

I was recently contacted and asked to share my thoughts on how a Christian is supposed to deal with narcissists, sociopaths and psychopaths. To some it may seem like an odd request but actually it isn’t at all. One area of my counseling practice is specializing in recovery from toxic relationships and believe me when I say that trying to have a normal relationship with a narcissist, sociopath or psychopath is anything BUT normal. The Hollywood version of how a narcissist, sociopath or psychopath behaves often confuses people and it is after much psychological abuse that someone comes to realize that they were in fact in a very toxic relationship. I think it’s important to know what these relationships look like and there is a great book called “Psychopath Free” by Peace. Here is a link to my book review – “Psychopath Free”. https://southlakecounseling.org/book-review-psychopath-free-by-peace/

This history of placing the blame on the woman when abuse is present has contributed to some Christian women feeling as if they can not set healthy boundaries with men who end up being narcissistic, sociopathic or psychopathic. Now, I should pause here and say that I know men meet, date and sometimes marry narcissists, sociopaths and psychopaths and the damage done is just as intensely painful for these men. The question asked of me was about Christians in particular and I do strongly believe that women have been taught to overlook and put up with abuse in ways that Christian men collectively have not. I could be wrong but it’s just my experience of being a Christian for over twenty years and having been actively involved in churches and previously on ministry staff.
What are Christians supposed to do when interacting with toxic people? I think remembering a few key points is very helpful.

A Tree and Its Fruit
Matthew 7:17 says that we will know a good tree by its fruit and a diseased tree by the fruit it bears. If you find yourself in a toxic relationship but are having trouble with setting what you know to be healthy boundaries, think about the fruit of your interactions with the abusive person. Do you feel anxious, not like your normal self, depressed or like you are living in a chaotic emotional tornado? Is that good or bad fruit? We both know the answer to that question and it’s bad fruit. Bad fruit produced by a bad tree.

God Will Change Him/Her
No, He won’t. Sorry to be so short and blunt about it but God will not change a narcissist, sociopath or psychopath. How do I know this to be true? Because I have never, not once, ever, never seen someone changed by God who didn’t want to be changed. Think about it for a minute. Has anyone ever gone to bed a complete high-grade jerk and woke up radically transformed into the loving image of Jesus? Nope. Now I have seen a whole lot of people do a whole lot of praying and soul searching and surrendering and the such and then became completely new people. It’s actually one of my favorite things about the blessings of God. Narcissists, sociopaths and psychopaths don’t think there is anything wrong with them. It’s part of their disorder & thinking that convinces them everyone else is wrong. They are incapable of change. Speaking of change, go ahead and take a look at my blog about the Four Levels Of Change. https://southlakecounseling.org/four-levels-of-change/
Don’t believe me? Think about a clinically narcissistic person and the truly positive lasting change that occurred within them. Can’t think of any? Neither can I and I am a therapist.
As Christians, we have to remember that scripture says that God is a gentleman and will go where He is welcomed. He doesn’t kick down doors to get to people who feel they have no need for Him. So if you’re staying stuck in a toxic situation with a narcissist, sociopath or psychopath and waiting for God to instantly change him or her, you are seriously wasting months if not years of your life. This thinking is a trap and can become a prison cell in which people stay self-imposed.

I Need To Lead Him /Her To Christ
When the topic of setting boundaries with toxic people comes up, I often hear Christians say that they are concerned about turning their backs on someone because they see it as their duty to lead that person to God. If someone is an evangelical Christian and believes that introducing a non-believer to God is their calling, then I can completely understand the pressure these people feel in cutting ties with unsaved toxic people. If you’re a predestination person, that pressure is different but still a difficult situation.
Whether a person is evangelical or not, staying safe and not becoming a door mat is vitally critical to our own well being. Once we lose our joy and our hope and our peace, we certainly can’t share those beautiful attributes with other people. If the narcissist, sociopath or psychopath in your life is causing or has caused you to be less sparkly than you once were, how can you expect to live the life you were given as a gift?
When Christians say that they don’t want to set needed boundaries because they are giving up on someone, I gently remind them that they are being a titch egocentric to think that they and they alone are only who God can use to bring change into the toxic person’s life. We have to be very careful when lies start whispering that we must be the one who brings truth to a narcissist, sociopath or psychopath. When we start thinking this way, we have enslaved ourselves to more abuse in all its various forms.
If you are a Christian and in a toxic relationship, ask yourself what fruit is this relationship bringing to your life. Good fruit or poisoned fruit? Remind yourself that people only change when they see a need and are willing to change. Lastly, you are not the only person on the planet who God can use to reach toxic people.
Does a particular toxic person come to mind and what boundaries do you need to set in order to fully enjoy your life again?

Hi! My name is Marie. Some of you may know my story. Some might not. I’ve seen my fair share of struggles in life, who hasn’t?! Much of my adult life, I was stuck in a cycle of abuse. As a result of that, I really struggled to love myself. All that time, I thought I was trusting God and loving Him, but I’ll ask you the same question I had to ask myself.... “If God created you, in His image, and He is incapable of mistakes, how can you be so critical of yourself? How can you love and honor Christ with your very being, if you hate who you are?!”

To be a Christian, requires you to DAILY take up your cross and follow Christ(Matthew 16:24-26)! But what does that mean? It means to surrender your own wants and desires and to seek out what God’s desires are for you. I may not always get it right, but I’m striving, daily! I’m learning to love this person, inside out, because she is a Child of God. Created and chosen for such a time as this.

My name is Marie, and I’m learning to love myself. How about you?! Can I pray with you or for you as you take on the challenge to die to yourself and live for Christ?

Does God sometimes use evil to accomplish His plans? (Habakkuk 1:5-11)

I believe this is something i needed to here and read with the times we are living in. As a reminder that Our God still has a plan, even though it seem like everything seems so backwards and evil in the time we are living

Habakkuk 1:5-11 is a prophecy in which God relates His intention to raise up Babylon, a “ruthless” and “dreaded” nation, to achieve His purpose. This raises the question, Does God sometimes use evil to accomplish His plans?

There is an important distinction to be made between God controlling evil and God creating evil. God is not the author of sin, but He can use sinful men to attain an objective. Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

“ALL THINGS ” includes both good and bad things. God can use struggles, heartbreaks and tragedies in ways to bring about His glory and our good. Such events, even though we don’t understand the reason for them, are part of His perfect, divine plan. If God could not control evil, He would not be God. His sovereignty demands that He be in control of everything, even “dreaded” nations such as Babylon.

At the same time, the Bible is clear that God does not sin and He performs no evil. James 1:13 teaches, “Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man.” ...Deuteronomy 32:4 says, “He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.”

The problem in Habakkuk is that God was using the Babylonians (an evil people) to accomplish His will. Our wise and perfect God can and sometimes does use the sin already existing in our world to fulfill His purpose. The perfect example of this is Jesus’ crucifixion: the murder of Christ was an evil act, but through it God brought redemption and disarmed the demonic powers and authorities (Colossians 2:15). In Habakkuk’s day, God’s purpose was to bring judgment on Judah for their idolatry. Babylon was the instrument of His judgment (Isaiah 10:5).

God’s revelation caused Habakkuk to then ask how God could use a nation of evildoers, than Judah, to judge Judah (1:12-2:1). God’s response was a promise that He would later punish Babylon as well (2:2-20). In the end, Habakkuk could only acknowledge the Lord’s perfect wisdom; the prophet ends with a song of praise in chapter 3.

We may struggle with questions about God’s methods as Habakkuk did. How God chooses to operate is up to Him. At times, He intervenes miraculously. Other times, He works behind the scenes. And, yes, God may even allow a certain measure of freedom to evil forces in our world to bring about His design. Like Habakkuk, if we view life from God’s perspective, our response will be to worship the Lord, knowing He is in control of all things.

I pray you have a Blessed day,
Marie Davis
