A Liturgy For Those Who Are Gone, in observance of All Hallow's Day, written by Ryan Roth-Klinck:
We begin by recentering ourselves, taking a deep breath in, and a deep breath out…and you are invited to let your mind bring forward and remember those who are no longer with us…
We remember those whom we have loved… who were part of our life and journeyed with us; who left lasting memories that make us smile when we think of them; who embraced us and made us feel loved; who are now gone and we miss more than we are often willing to admit. We offer our remembrance by lighting a candle…
We remember those who we wished we knew better…those who should have been in our life, but were taken away too early; those who we knew only for a short time; those who we heard stories about from our family; those whose names we know, but we don’t know their story. We offer our remembrance by lighting a candle…
We remember those who have been forgotten… those who we have wanted to forget because of harm that they have done; those who we haven’t thought of in a long, long time; those ancestors who we never knew and their wisdom was never passed down from generation to generation. We offer our remembrance by lighting a candle…
We remember those who lived on this land long before us… the people and creatures whose stories we will never fully know; the prairie and land that was harmed and hurt in the name of human progress; the names of those who are long gone and we will not get back. We offer our remembrance by light a candle…
We take a moment now to gaze upon the candles, giving thanks for the witness of those in the past. We ask through God’s mystery that they may help to guide us on our journey today and that they may let themselves be known as divine messengers, inner wisdom that pops into our heads, and even through simple, small nudges and gut feelings that lead us to the truth. May the love and wisdom of our ancestors radiate and shine through us. Amen.
