This Friday, September 11, we invite you to join us at Virginia’s Chapel as Glasgow United Methodist Church begins their 90th Anniversary celebration! The service will begin at 7:00 with Rev. Sam McMinn and Rev. Darick Biondi (former Glasgow UMC pastors) leading the service.

From the early 1900s until the chapel became too small, the congregations of Cedar Grove and Glasgow Methodist worshiped at Virginia’s Chapel. In 1936, Glasgow began worshiping in their own church. Ninety years later, we are bringing it back to where it all began! We hope you can join us!

Thank you, Charleston Gazette-Mail, for coming up this week and for the wonderful story on Virginia’s Chapel! And if you get a paper at home, we’re on the front page today!

Built 173 years ago as a Kanawha County salt baron’s gift to his 18-year-old daughter, Virginia’s Chapel has survived the test of time but is now in need of some TLC in order to remain an iconic presence along U.S. 60 in Cedar Grove.

The Virginia’s Chapel Foundation, the organization that owns and manages the historic church, is in the midst of a campaign to raise the estimated $42,000 needed to:

- Repair and stabilize its steeple, now on the verge of collapse due to water damage and wood rot

- Paint and re-plaster damaged interior and exterior surfaces

- Replace gutters and downspouts

- Replace an HVAC unit
