January 2026 Ice Storm clean up. Most of the church yard cleared. Tree that fell on the church has been cut up and removed.

Bluff Springs cemetery has now had 90 percent of the fence rows cleared. Old cedar tree by George Lee Smith’s grave has been removed. Stump included.

Still more chainsaw work and tree removal from the south west corner of the cemetery to be complete with ice storm clean up.

Ice Storm January 2026 has left us a huge mess to clean up. The church had a tree to fall and damage some of the roof. Limbs and trees down all over the cemetery and church yard. This is going to take some major work to clean up.

Grass was cut at the church today. A little work was done in the cemetery. Our normal volunteer maintenance guy is doing a great job keeping the cemetery looking good. Today has been the hardest work day for me, as it is the first one since my father's death. I always did this for him and our ancestors who are buried here or lived here and attended church here.

A few more pictures from yesterday
Inside the church there are three items attached to the ceiling.

Two were where the kerosene chandeliers hung. They are long gone but their beauty was mentioned in a few news articles of the area.

One is an odd thing to have in the ceiling. A pulley. When the church was active they had an issue with flying insects building nest in the piano. My Grandfather James Lee Smith Sr climbed a ladder and installed it so they could raise and lower a protective cage over the piano.

Up early (4am) and a 175 mile ride to Carroll county.

Cemetery fences are 80% cleared, cemetery grass cut, and church grass cut.

Herbicide applied around fences, headstones, and treated regrowth from Crepe Myrtle trees.

Property looks good and the normal volunteer grounds maintenance guys are doing a great job.

Almost 15,000 steps today. The last of the Crepe Myrtle trees are cut along with the other trees in the cluster. Stump up from a cedar we cut many years back by George Lee Smith’s grave. Grass cut around the church. Boards put back in place at church. Weeds and tree regrowth sprayed. The cemetery and church properties are both looking very good. Thanks to all that help to maintain this special place.
