A Scout Troop Creates A Legacy…

Troop 170 BSA used to meet at the Mt Holly United Methodist Church in Mount Holly Springs, PA until they disbanded in 2022. For several decades, the scouts of Troop 170 were given an opportunity to learn “Leadership Skills”, hone their “Outdoor / Scouting Skills”, gain “Life Skills”, and, most importantly, “HAVE FUN” while doing so. Many of the boys who joined Troop 170 took advantage of their opportunities and were able to earn the rank of “Eagle Scout”. 😊

Unfortunately, Troop 170 became victim to the same fate experienced by many other veteran scout troops from across the country. Although, the troop was able to keep their members engaged, it had become nearly impossible to gain new recruits due to the declined interest in Boy Scouts, and the lack of feeder membership coming from neighboring Cub Scout packs. The lack of new membership, coupled with the effects of the BSA bankruptcy and Covid Pandemic, forced the troop leadership to make a very difficult decision…It was time for Troop 170 to disband. ☹

Although their troop was being disbanded, the leadership of Troop 170 sought a way to continue their mission of helping scouts. The troop leaders decided to donate the troop’s treasury to The Memorial Scout Camp in an effort to keep the “Spirit of Troop 170” alive by helping scouts from across the country. The MSC Board of Directors has pledged to create a “Legacy” in the name of Troop 170 BSA, Mount Holly Springs, PA. They have promised that the “Troop 170 Contribution” will be used to directly benefit scouts through the “MSC Campership Program” or the “MSC Camping Essentials Program”.
