One Minute Ministry

One Minute Ministry Weekday devotionals. I am just a child of a living and breathing God. I am a daughter, wife, mother, and a sister. Welcome to my journey.

Each workday there will be a scripture listed in the status - for a more detailed devotional on each verse, click on this link www.oneminuteministry.net I am not perfect or free of sin, but I am forgiven. I'm not an ordained minister, clergy, or any other trained professional. I am only a woman after God’s own heart who desires to gain grace, mercy and wisdom from His words. Each morning I am amaz

ed by what the Spirit reveals to me in the quiet of the morning alone in my chair as these verses seem to come alive in my heart. My devotionals are simply the written version of my meetings with God each morning as he molds me into the woman of God he is calling me to become.

Luke 22:9-13 NIV

[9] “Where do you want us to prepare for it?” they asked. [10] He replied, “As you enter the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him to the house that he enters, [11] and say to the owner of the house, 'The Teacher asks: Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?' [12] He will show you a large room upstairs, all furnished. Make preparations there.” [13] They left and found things just as Jesus had told them. So they prepared the Passover.

I took the challenge to read the book of Luke in December and it has been the perfect words for this season it always amazes me how God opens up my heart and mind with his words for me to hear what I need at the moment. Today is no different.

As I read this passage I was struck at how the simple act of carrying a jar of water was profoundly important for the disciples to find their way. Water. A chore - someone had to fetch that jar. They may have even been complaining that they were sent for that water.

I know I grumble and complain about some of my menial tasks. But, what do they mean to someone else? I have written before about a beautiful arrangement in a second story window that I see on my way to work every day. It is always so beautiful. I look for it most days but it’s the days I forget about it and it catches my eye that reminds me that God loves me. He had someone place those flowers there for me. Just like that water jug. It was a sign that God is in every little detail.

Maybe you are in a rut. Maybe you feel insignificant today. Maybe you just need a moment to search out that jar of water or that bouquets of flowers God has in motion for you at this moment. Take it as a sign of His love not a coincidence that happened. He leaves us love notes every day....stop and read one today. His hand is weaving the details together for His glory. Enjoy His love today.

Lord thank you for your never ending love. Thank you for your wisdom and strength I garner from your words. Open our eyes to the little things today so we can see your handiwork before us.

In Jesus’ name we pray!

Amen! Amen!

Luke 10:18 He replied, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19 I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. 20 However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

I would have been too busy talking about how the demons came out of someone to even hear the last part “rejoice that your names are written in heaven”. That actually made me sad this morning because I know I would have put myself and what I was doing over who was “actually” doing anything. It is our human nature to say “me” or “I” way before we give credit somewhere else.

I spend time with God. I thank him for who he is, what he teaches me and the promises that he gives, but rejoicing that my name is written in heaven isn’t always at the top of my list if I am truthful. I often thank Him for taking me from who I was to whom I am becoming, but not for where I will be for eternity.

I wonder how God’s heart feels when we take that for granted and do not give it the honor, praise and rejoicing it deserves? What if I spent time rejoicing over my name being in his book and on his lips. Maybe some of the words we here on earth would not sting as much. Maybe the temporary hurts may fade a little quicker if we focus on heaven. Maybe the little things on earth would really feel little instead of mountainous if we rejoiced more about heaven. Maybe our self-worth would increase, our joy would shine and a peace that can only come from God would fill us to a point of overflow. Maybe if we change our focus we change where we head.

Lord, thank you for the gentle reminders of where our thoughts and minds spend their time. Help us to refocus our hearts on you and where we will spend our eternity. Thank you for drawing me to you and making a special place for me in heaven. I rejoice that my name is written in heaven.
In Jesus’ name we pray!
Amen! Amen!

Luke 6:9-11 NIV

[9] Then Jesus said to them, “I ask you, which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it?” [10] He looked around at them all, and then said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He did so, and his hand was completely restored. [11] But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law were furious and began to discuss with one another what they might do to Jesus.

I don’t want to debate what can be done on a sabbath but I do want to talk about how we judge others. As I read the verses I thought about how both sides thought they were doing the right thing. Jesus of course heals. The Pharisees thought they had to follow certain rules. As I thought about them I wondered how many times we judge someone’s actions, even when their’s may be right as well, because it doesn’t look like our way or follow our rules.

Probably more often than we think. Today I will watch how I act and react towards others based on my own beliefs. Will I argue my point or instead inquire into their’s so I can understand them better? I may just learn something amazing today.

Lord thank you for always making your word come alive in my heart. Help us to see our own judging hearts and give grace to those around us today.

In Jesus’ name we pray!

Amen. Amen.

Luke 4:28-30 NIV

[28] All the people in the synagogue were furious when they heard this (that Jesus was going to leave the area and speak the good news to other towns)[29] They got up, drove him (Jesus) out of the town, and took him to the brow of the hill on which the town was built, in order to throw him off the cliff. [30] But he walked right through the crowd and went on his way.

How many times do we just see the cliff as our only way out of a situation? Blocked on all sides except the one that leads to death. But Jesus walked back through the angry crowd to safety and put the cliff to his back. He turned from death and walked through a tough crowd to life.

Ever been there? Caught between a “rock and a hard place”? Unsure of what to do or where to flee? Just because satan pushes you to a “cliff” doesn’t mean you have to jump. Jesus turned his back to the cliff and choose the right path, away, and just took action and walked.

We can all relate to this. We all face hardships and tough places BUT when we focus on where we need to be (away from cliff) and walk that way, God is always with us. He parts seas. He parts crowds. Choosing the right way is not always easy, but we are never alone. Jesus goes before us, covers behind us and sits on our sides.

Lord thank you for reminding us you always provide a way away from the cliff, we just need to trust you in our journey through the crowds to where you want us to be. May we always see and feel your presence on the journey.

Amen. Amen.

Luke 3
23 Now Jesus himself was about thirty years old when he began his ministry. He was the son, so it was thought, of Joseph, the son of Heli, 24 the son of Matthat, …… 38 the son of Enosh, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.

Sometimes we just need to be reminded of who our father really is and all of the families that went before us so that we could be here, today, at this moment. You matter. I matter. We were all born with a purpose on purpose. Live like it today.

Lord, thank you for another amazing day in Luke. May your glory shine through any dark times that may come our way. Help us to remember we are children of a loving God.

In Jesus’ name we pray!

Amen! Amen!

Luke 2:41-46 NIV

[41] Every year Jesus' parents went to Jerusalem for the Festival of the Passover. [42] When he was twelve years old, they went up to the festival, according to the custom. [43] After the festival was over, while his parents were returning home, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but they were unaware of it. [44] Thinking he was in their company, they traveled on for a day. Then they began looking for him among their relatives and friends. [45] When they did not find him, they went back to Jerusalem to look for him. [46] After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions.

These are the verses I cling to when I feel I failed as a parent. Mary lost her kid for three days....my longest stretch was 15 minutes.

All jokes aside....this verse also speaks to me about seeking out Jesus for myself. Would I even spend 3 days searching my heart for him? I wouldn’t have to travel anywhere. I could sit in the comfort of my own home. With a cup of coffee by my side as I read his word. But, would I stay the course? Would I keep my mind on the word or would it wander away to the things I need to do later? Would I lose focus on what I set out to do? And, most importantly, would I find him there?

This month I am seeking Him. I’m focused on reading Luke (a chapter a day until Christmas) each day and meditating on the journey from the day Jesus was placed in Mary’s womb. I want to have the peace of God shine from me not my frustration, anger, resentment, or selfishness after I leave His presence. Maybe this time seeking Him will be the best present I receive on Christmas Day.

Lord thank you for giving us your Son. May we honor you with all that we say and do today. Give us peace in our hearts that we can share with others and let the light of Christ shine from our hearts.

In Jesus’ name we pray!

Amen! Amen!

Luke 1:11-13 NIV

[11] Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing at the right side of the altar of incense. [12] When Zechariah saw him, he was startled and was gripped with fear. [13] But the angel said to him: “Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to call him John.

I started my journey in Luke today and will be reading about the birth of Jesus. Perfect timing

As I read this verse I could imagine Gabriel the angel standing boldly at the entrance of the temple all armored up. Shield in his hand. Helmet on his head. But when he spoke “your prayer has been heard” it reminded me that God is always working on our behalf. Zechariah wasn’t on his knees begging God again for a child. He was going about his daily tasks, serving God, and God was putting his request into action.

Now I’m not saying that being on your knees is wrong I am saying he trusted that what he asked for would be received. He walked in faith knowing God was working even if Gabriel wasn’t seen until later.

So if you are praying for something that has been on your heart, stay the course. Believe. Walk in faith and wait upon the Lord. Serve Him while you wait. Bless others as you await your blessing. Share God’s love while you wait for your prayer to be answered. God is working all things out for you for His glory. Stay the course.

If I can stand in prayer with you for something please message me.

Lord thank you for your word that is always new each day. You always show me something different every time I meet with you. Open my eyes to the wonder of your word as I journey through Luke with you. May this Christmas season be filled with your peace and presence - not presents.

In Jesus’ name we pray.

Amen! Amen!

Psalm 100
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; 5 give thanks to him and praise his name. For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.

Well you can’t really enter this week without talking about being thankful for something. Maybe you give thanks for family and friends. Maybe it’s for the meal set before you. Maybe it is for that loved one that is still with you. Maybe it’s for the cheat day.

But, maybe you are too sad this time to be thankful for anything. Maybe you dread being around people this year. Maybe you wish you could just stay home and ignore the world. Maybe you can’t really see his faithfulness this year.

Thanksgiving is not just a time to be thankful, it’s a time for more feelings that some can handle. This year, be mindful of those around you. Seek out that neighbor who is alone this year. Smile a little extra. Donate an extra can good. Try giving what you want to get from others. Sometimes just being thankful for a moment in time can allow a little bit of light to shine through your darkest days.

God calls us to enter his gates with thanksgiving – walk with him today.

If you need help getting through these holidays, reach out to someone. Call a friend. Call a family member. Call a life coach. Call me. We were meant to do life together – reach out to someone today.

Lord, help us all to see those around us in need. If we are the ones in need, help us to see those around us who love us. May this year’s holiday season be one where your light shines through each one of us.

In Jesus’ name we pray!

Amen! Amen!

Psalm 36:11-12 NIV
[11] May the foot of the proud not come against me, nor the hand of the wicked drive me away. [12] See how the evildoers lie fallen---thrown down, not able to rise!

What a word for this morning! The other verse I read was “take refuge in the shadow of his wings”. The shadow. We just have to be close enough for his shadow. That’s the power of our God!

It’s hard to walk in life some days. The foot of the proud feels like it’s stomping on you! The hand of the wicked pushing you away from who you are and into someone you are not. But in all of it it’s our choice in how we respond. We can scream and yell. We can run and hide. We can stand up and fight. Or we can let God do his work in us and in others as we draw near to his shadow. Life isn’t always easy but God is always faithful.

So if today you are struggling snuggle up to God and rest in his shadow and let Him do what He does best - His will.

Lord thank you for always having the right word at the right time. May we all feel your presence today. May the foot of the wicked remain planted in quicksand and the hand of the wicked waive goodbye.

In Jesus’ name we pray.

Amen. Amen

Galatians 6:11 NIV

[11] See what large letters I use as I write to you with my own hand!

I’ve read through the Bible a few times over the years but today, this verse stuck out for the first time. I actually chuckled at it. I have no idea the text that followed. I don’t know what the large letters were going to speak about, but I love how he emphasized what was coming with large letters.

I was typing a text the other day and accidentally hit the uppercase key and made all the letters big. I had typed a whole sentence before I realized it but didn’t go back and fix it I sent it as it was. Those words were now screaming out my plight - accidentally.

As I read the verse I wondered what else I speak out with such an emphasis but without words. What do my actions scream? I had a conversation with someone the other day and before they quite got out of my vision I could read their body language. They were not happy with what I said and their body said it loud and clear. Unfortunately difficult conversations do have to take place. Corrections do need to be made. But as I watched them walk away I wondered how many times my body language gave me away?

Nothing is hidden from God. He sees our body language, sees our hearts and knows our thoughts. Others can see a few things as well and sometimes we scream out through big letters but we often show things with far less.

So today I will be mindful of what I emphasize with my words, actions and body language. I want to be more like God and less like me. I want to follow my flesh less and walk in the spirit more. Don’t know if I will pass this test but God knows my heart and my attempts are sincere.

Lord thank you for grace upon grace. I thank you for wisdom from the smallest of sentences. I thank you for allowing me to see the unspoken language and giving me the wisdom to search my own heart out first. May today be a day I do better than I did before.

In Jesus’ name we pray!

Amen! Amen!

Psalm 139:7 NIV

[7] Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?

What a great reminder that no matter where I am or what I am experiencing - God is there. I can’t escape His presence no matter how hard I try. He is there. He sees it all. He loves me still.

This year has been filled with stuff. Good stuff and bad stuff. Scary stuff. Exciting stuff. Disgusting stuff. Frustrating stuff. Painful stuff. All the “stuffs” that make up life. I have wanted to scream, laugh and cry and sometimes all within a few minutes of each other. All I can do is remind myself God is there for every second of every moment. And He is faithful and trustworthy no matter the circumstances or even how you got there.

So trust Him today. Seek Him out in the middle of it. Rest in His peace and not your own.

Lord, thank you for never leaving me. Thank you for reminding me you are there always. Continue to show your face to me as I walk through each day trusting you for all my provisions. May I never stop seeking you.

In Jesus’ name I pray.

Amen amen!

Psalm 118:26 NIV
[26] Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. From the house of the Lord we bless you.

This week my bible study group was discussing what we spend our time on or in? What do you do and does it bring you closer to God? Where does your spirit get filled up in order to give from your abundance?

Well as I read the verses above I asked myself “is it from the house of the Lord that I bless others”? Or is it from the envy of what someone else has? Is it from the greed I feel from within my business? Is it from my self esteem after I scroll through Facebook? Is it from the hurt I felt from a loved one? Is it from an overwhelmed heart and mind? Is it from a loss I felt? Is it from an offense I felt? I am sure we can all add to this list.

We bless from our hearts that are hopefully filled to overflowing from God. But we have to have him, seek him and be filled with him to give love to those around us.

A friend of mine told me how his daughter was picked on day one at school. How that hurt his heart for his baby. That other kid has not been around the house of the lord. He has probably been told some harsh things himself and saw some heart wrenching actions to be so cruel to others.

So let each of us be mindful of if we are giving blessings from the house of the lord or have you been spending too much time in satan’s playground?

Lord help us to see what fruit comes from where we spend our time and talents. Remind us throughout our day from what cup are we drinking? Give us grace for today to walk in your presence and fill out hearts with things of you.

In Jesus’ name we pray!

Amen. Amen.
